doesn't matter what the rules are anymore anywhere, mass gatherings and protest marches put paid to them
just waiting for the next spike as a result

Florence, the reason we know what we can and can't do is because Nicola Sturgeon, regardless of what you think of her politics, has been extremely clear in her daily press briefings.

Every day, since lockdown began, she has spoken to everyone about the current situation, explaining what we may do and what has changed since the day before. The whole speech is then published on the government website.

The same does not appear to apply in England. I read last week that, in an online poll of over 70's, where about 3,000 people answered it, 43% were uncertain as to whether they were allowed out if they were fit and healthy. :-S

Not a bad idea Kay. I was thinking of asking the visitor to bring personal stepping stones so they can get to the lawn without treading on my patio tiles aka the slabs.
:-D

You mucky pup Allan LOL. I'm planning to cover our loo with cling film for when we have a visitor - and I'll insist they bring a piece of Astroturf to position their own chair on. Paper cups will be incinerated.

:-D :-D

I'm just glad that I live in Western Australia :-D

Yesterday my brother and his wife payed us a flying visit. They spent a good half hour with us, in which time they had a nice cup of tea (using our cups).

Immediately prior to visiting us they had gone into the local supermarket to buy a couple of cooked chooks.

They were actually on there way to spend a couple of days, with another non-family couple at some holiday accommodation near us which has just re-opened following the easing of restrictions :-D :-D

Oh, and my SIL used our downstairs loo, which we did not clean afterwards :-0

We do get some funny looks as my SIL is Chinese ;-)

A lot of people now walk as a family so that's a good thing to get everyone out of the flats....

maggiewinchester Report 5 Jun 2020 20:59

It must be awful for those who live in flats - especially if they have children.

Only time I wear a face mask is when I've had to go to a store and can't keep a good distance from anyone else. All other times just keep away from everyone as best as I can. All Governments in all countries seem to be trying to play catchup and tripping over their own feet it's not just Boris!

I am in Scotland and have been in isolation because I have respiratory problems...chronic asthmatic apart from recovering from major surgery.

But I live in a detached house with a large garden. So on nice days myself and daughter have sat outside bothering no one.
Why am I hearing of people in isolation only now breathing fresh air? there was nothing stopping them going outside into their garden for fresh air.
Going out, actually meant going to a public space where there are other people, leaving your own home to go somewhere else such as a shop.

Or am I being extremely stupid?

Florence in the Hebrides

Edit.No we don't wear face masks indoors or the garden as there is only the 2 of us and she is in a risk group too.

Kay???? Report 5 Jun 2020 20:13

Anyway Phyll,if you are on the list that you can go out for a walk or see family in any open space then use your own judgement on safety.

If you already use shops then little will change in meeting others semi-socially as long as the distance is followed.

Boris has only recently taken charge of the Covid situation. Amazingly he won't say (see Prime Minister's Questions) who was in charge before. Was it Dominic Cummings I wonder?

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 5 Jun 2020 19:24

I did not vote for Boris - in fact it's a long time since I cast a vote in a general election because it would be an utter waste of my time. The same party gets in every time by a huge majority.

Denburybob Report 5 Jun 2020 18:40

We are in uncharted territory with this virus. Boris is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. Anyone can be an expert with hindsight. And just for the record, I voted Tory and think Boris is doing a good job in the circumstances. I await opprobrium.

Kay???? Report 5 Jun 2020 17:54

Island

Island Report 5 Jun 2020 17:38

Kay, I've also read that when visiting someone elses garden you must take your own chair and cup etc.

Might as well take full on camping gear and be done with it.

Island

Island Report 5 Jun 2020 17:32

I'm puzzled by 'allowed to go outside' especially having seen a photo (on the BBC news site?) of a woman indoors with her hands pressed against a window - wearing a mask! :-S
Have we been 'breaking the rules' by spending as much time as possible in our garden? We haven't been wearing masks indoors either :-0

I'll not be told what I am and am not 'allowed' to do. I'll use common sense to keep both of us safe.

Little wonder some people are confused and kicking against this.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 5 Jun 2020 17:26

England---- 6 People can share time in the garden//outside area ,,even for a BBQ,,,,they can use the toilet as long they thoroughly hand wash and the area used is cleaned after ...they also can stay out in the open as long as they wish,,,,,,,,but inside meetings are a no no.

,I think a bucket behind the shed,a bowl of Dettol and hairdryer for hands,,,,,,,is just the thing,,, ;-).
