Afternoon Joy <3 :-D

Are you having a coffee :-D

Four WW2 planes flew over the house in formation at about 12:10, think they were heading for Westminster Abbey. I think they were a Spitfire & Hurricane but couldn't make out the other two....don't think they were all Spitfires & Hurricanes because there aren't that many flying now :-0 :-)

Afternoon Belle. <3 :-D

Coffee time over - now thinking of making a butty. :-D

Spitfires and Hurricanes? Are they flying over for a reason Belle? 20 September? Was that when the date the treaty with Japan was actually signed after ceasefire in August?

I have lots of stuff in my cupboards about it but can't be bothered to delve. My mind is blank but I know someone will look it up.

Or .... Does Boris deserve a flypast? :-D :-S

Although the Battle of Britain didn't end until Oct 1940, it is always commemorated and remembered on 15 Sep... there was a Service at Westminster Abbey this morning as it would be the 80th Anniversary and it would be the Sunday after the 15th :-)

Afternoon Fly. <3 :-D

The District Nurse told one of my old pals that she ought to be shielding still when she discovered that my pal and her OH (both with serious health issues) had obeyed Boris and started to pop into the shops for their own groceries.

Getting ticked off by the District Nurse - that'll learn her. :-0

She took no bleddy notice of me when I told her it seemed to me that Boris wanted to kill us oldies off. :-S

PatinCyprus Report 20 Sep 2020 13:47

Belle it is Battle of Britain Weekend and a service at Westminster with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fly past.

Aircraft to choose from would probably be one each of the following.
1 Avro Lancaster
6 Supermarine Spitfires
2 Hawker Hurricanes
1 Douglas Dakota

:-D

Kense

Kense Report 20 Sep 2020 15:03

As well as the RAF ones that Pat refers to, there are 75 Spitfires and 11 Hurricanes registered in the UK most of which are flyable. At the Duxford Battle of Britain airshow last year there was a take-off and formation flypast by at least 17 Spitfires.

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 20 Sep 2020 15:51

Wow, Kense....now that would be a sight to see :-)

It would appear it was three Spitfires and a Hurricane in the flypast today :-)
