Barbara, just read back.

Ambulance personnel are at the forefront. They and others in similar categories get bitten, spat on, gouged and a whole lot more. It's a wonder there aren't more with the virus.

I thought 170 cases at a plant in Cornwall was an awful lot until I saw the news tonight. More than 700 at Northumbria University.

We have young family members at Schools in Lancashire youngest 6 eldest 12 in their Schools Covid is in all of them.one classroom in each of their five schools their parents have gone back to work & then this happens they are waiting to be told keep children at home In my opinion Pupils Students should have stayed at home to study & cafes Resturants shops kept open to try & keep economy ticking over & take aways it would make more sense than all these young people being subject to the Covid its what to do for the best ? Barbara .

I spoke with my younger sister yesterday. Her daughter was due to take up her accommodation at uni last week but having seen the way covid is spreading my sister decided to ring the uni to ask about lectures, accommodation and covid procedures,

She was told lectures are going to be online and there would be no charge for the accommodation her child was to have moved into as long as the key had not been picked up.

My niece is now studying from home but I feel sorry for those families of students who have moved into uni accommodation only to discover that they could have saved themselves a few thousand pounds.

Students must be beyond being peeved by being put at risk through sharing facilities such as kitchen, living and laundry.

If it were me, I'd feel cheated!

Edit: this is in England, by the way.

Over here almost all the Uni and college course are online only. The highest number of new cases is in people under 40 many of whom have been partying without masks in big groups.

Covid spreading at universities. Is it any wonder?

I think it was a bit much to expect young people not to mingle when most are already sharing kitchen (oven, fridges etc) and living spaces and even more are sharing laundry facilities. Some will be in part-time jobs too.

Does anyone think as I do - the greed of university bosses is the reason for this spread? And I bet they give themselves rises when all the rents are in - something they could have foregone in these peculiar times. It's called looking after number one.

If they can tutor online, it is surely not beyond their brain-power to make it for all and for everything. Why did they not let students remain at home?

Incidentally, as they have not succeeded in setting up online tutoring for all, you would surely question why any child would enrol for an IT course with them. I know I would.

I'm asthmatic and dislike wearing a mask but can tolerate it so I do wear one where required.

One of the exemptions is if wearing a mask would cause you severe distress so that should cover claustrophobia.

Florence61 Report 23 Sep 2020 23:40

Joan I am like you and cannot wear a face mask. I am asthmatic and cant bear anything to cover my face as i get claustrophobic and start to panic not being able to breathe. When i was in ICU, i had this huge face mask on which i continuously tried to pull off, it was horrendous. I also made sure they did not shut my bedroom door at night and here at home all my doors stay open.Lounge, kitchen and bedroom doors are never shut as i hate being shut in.

My first time on a bus a few weeks ago, i just said to the driver, i cant wear a mask and he didnt question why.

I was in the coop last saturday and the experience for me left me feeling so anxious i am not venturing out again to a supermarket for some time to come. i simply was so nervous and very jumpy. It was all too much really. So will be sticking with Tesco online for the time being.

GP phoning tomorrow at 4 for a good chat about my health so will keep you posted.

Nite all

I think there has been some foreign research suggesting that droplets can still escape.
So I don’t think the general public has been told to wear the normal mask with it. I think it is just hairdressers, beauticians and a few others that are supposed to wear both.
You should be able to download a card to say you are exempt. There is also the sunflower lanyards.

I wore a big clear facemask today to meet 2 women and they both told me that I have to wear a normal mask underneath it, but when a person has COPD and told by the doctor you only need a clear facemask then I can[t see why I was in the wrong.

The OT told me I need a note from the doctor to say I have COPD.

I am in my late 70's and NOT a School kid.
