Yesterday (22/1) we received a Christmas card posted 22/12.

And the day before, a TV Times expiring yesterday.

And a couple of days before that some vouchers which were use by 31/12.

Andysmum Report 22 Jan 2021 15:20

Ours wears shorts a lot of the time, but has been in long trousers since the cold spell before Christmas.

Deliveries have been more or less normal and even mail from other parts of the UK has been arriving much as usual. I didn't realise others had problems until I read this thread.

Please you got your post at last.

Out here in the sticks it is the other way round. It is odd to see a Postie wearing long trousers. They almost all wear shorts all year round.

LondonBelle Report 22 Jan 2021 13:16

We had our second delivery since the 24th. All the correspondence was dated 5Jan apart from a card posted yesterday 2nd class :-0

Not complaining as it looks like the post is starting to get back to normal :-D

One observation the Postie was wearing shorts :-0 :-D

I don’t know whether you are allowed to but we are in a village with a little sorting office. Anyway, they took one look at OH and knew our house number.
Today’s postie did mention something about a massive National Trust brochure. So maybe they are trying to deliver the backlog before they have to lug that around.

LondonBelle Report 19 Jan 2021 11:02

That's what happened here namelessone, a small royal mail van came and the postie delivered from there that was early last week. Doubt whether we will get another delivery until next week at the earliest :-(

We are not allowed to collect mail. I understand that if you phone them they will attempt to deliver any mail within three working days. :-)

Post office van outside. More parcels for someone, I thought. But no, the first letter delivery for 2 weeks.
Nothing for us as we had already collected ours, but grateful to see them out and about.

You only need to worry if your virus inoculation appointment invitation has not materialised yet.

I think I spoke too soon when I said we seem to have a weekly delivery. Last one was Wednesday or Thursday last week.
However, there have been two vans doing parcels today. :-|

You could be right AnnG ;-) :-D :-D

Probably been reading this thread Belle. :-D

Thanks for the link, Namelessone......my postcode is one of those listed where service is limited :-(

All those that I spoke to briefly, while socially distanced, this morning are having the same problem. There are problems at the Sorting Office where staff are either off sick with Covid or self isolating because they have been in contact with someone with Covid :-(

I understand that NHS letters are being prioritised for delivery :-)

Also, if you phone up they will deliver post within 3 working days :-)

Guess what! The Postie has just cometh :-D <3 Yeehhh :-D

It was reported from the middle of last year that coronavirus has hit Sorting Office personnel.

I've seen this on several news threads on line :

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55591063

Doesn't really explain why we seem to be on once a week deliveries.

nameslessone Report 12 Jan 2021 09:45

Didn’t there use to be a theory that if you sent your Christmas cards out early they would get stuck under the bulk of later postings. Or was that just me?

Florence61

Florence61 Report 12 Jan 2021 00:00

I received a xmas card from a friend and it was with a first class stamp dated 17th dec posted from kent to scotland.
i also received another also on sat sent from Glasgow 16 Dec!

I was about -15 cards this year and found it a bit strange I was missing a few.

But the cards i missed, i then began to worry and wonder if they had passed away etc and many of my friends down south only send a card at xmas with a letter and their news.

Here In Oz, we are not badly affected by the 'lurgy', but yesterday (11th) we received a Christmas card which had been posted within Australia on 19th December and that was according to the postmark.

BrianW

BrianW Report 11 Jan 2021 20:55

We've only had parcels since before Christmas and understand our usual postie is self-isolating but you'd think they could re-arrange rounds so we got a delivery a couple of times a week.
