Sharron

Sharron Report 22 Feb 2021 14:12

Is there not a census due out in the next few weeks?

Once upon a time, I helped raise funds for the record office to buy the 1881 census.

19 June 1921
The census, which was the first to be conducted following the introduction of the Census Act of 1920, will be published in early 2022. Taken on 19 June 1921, it consists of more than 28,000 bound volumes of original household returns containing detailed information on close to 38 million individuals.27 Feb 2019

Less than one month's time,

March 21st 2021

...and we'll be having to report on ourselves for the next one

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 22 Feb 2021 14:30

Or is Sharron talking about the one we have to complete on 21 March 2021 :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Feb 2021 14:39

I took it to mean the one in March.

Sharron

Sharron Report 22 Feb 2021 14:40

I didn't know we would not have access to it until next year.

It has answered my question as to why nobody is excited.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Feb 2021 14:40

Actually Shirley is talking of the next census to be published, and Sharron maybe the one to be taken

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 22 Feb 2021 14:42

Aha it's the release of the 1921 Census :-D

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 22 Feb 2021 14:44

March 2021 is only England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Scotland is doing theirs in March 2022, because of the pandemic. Will people who move house between the two be on no census - or perhaps two??

:-S :-S :-S

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 22 Feb 2021 15:00

Strictly speaking everyone who is staying in a property on the night of 21 Mar 2021 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland should be named and details completed. I suppose if a person moves to Scotland after 21 Mar 2021 but before the Scottish Census then they will appear twice.

Not sure why Scotland can't do their Census on the same date as ours as it is now done online :-S

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 22 Feb 2021 15:17

I’m surprised they didn’t get their census in first. ;-)

When the 1921 census is released we will probably have to pay extra for it for a time.

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 22 Feb 2021 16:20

This was announced last year

The 2021 census in Scotland was moved to 2022 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The census in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will still be held in 2021. .

It's going to take at least a year for FMP to get the census translated to publishing stage

so we'll be lucky to see it before June next year ............ and we will have to pay extra, just as we did for the last census and the 1939 Register.

I think FMP has already stated that.

Amokavid Report 22 Feb 2021 18:54

I thought census releases were released / made available on the 1st of January of the year following the 100yrs!
I do believe earlier census releases were? so I would be interested to know why the 1921 would be different?

nameslessone Report 22 Feb 2021 21:19

Surely it would be available toreadearchers from then, but it takes time to process the whole thing by genealogy companies.

Wasn’t it a special agreement that got the last one early?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Feb 2021 21:47

names ....

yes there was some sort of special agreement that released it early ........ but it took almost a year to get all the translating done and for us to be able to see it, by pating extra unless you had the World sub.

The same happened with the 1939 Register .......... and parts were not released at the same time.

Then it took about another couple of years before the 1939 was released to Ancestry, and they got their translations done.
