Before I moved, Betty (cat) had become a stressed-out indoor cat.
She'd sit in the bath and howl - probably the best acoustics!
Occasionally, she'd come out in to the garden if I was there.
She was pulling her fur out, and started not using the litter tray.
There were quite a few un-neutered toms about :-|
Since moving, she has become a different character!
The first couple of weeks, I kept them in. Despite having 3 litter trays, Betty occasionally 'avoided' them.
Betty moved from room to room, sitting on the windowsill, watching the world.
Then, I started letting them out, but locking them in at night.
George was waking me at 5am to go out.
Betty was sitting on a stool in the passageway (best acoustics, yet again) howling.

Then I started putting in a cat flap. Sister came around and cut a hole with her jig-saw. Unfortunately it was too small, so there was a hole in the door for a few weeks, until she came back - but the cats could come and go as they liked - and no howling from Betty!.
There's a cat flap now :-D

Betty has now established her territory - it's the grass out the back. - which is also her personal litter tray!
This is where she spends her days - and nights, either on the bin, or the grass.
She's no longer pulling her fur out, and is a lot calmer.
We've had one other cat come in the garden - and Betty 'saw it off' with an amazing display of snarling - no fighting took place. I was in the kitchen watching, ready to do some additional snarling and hissing, if needed.
When it rains, she 'shelters' under the table - which is slatted, so the rain still gets through. Having said that - she looks incredibly healthy now.

The other day,we had hail, the neighbours saw her SLEEPING out in the hail, and thought she was dead. I called Betty in, and explained to the neighbours that there was a cat flap, but I'm not responsible for her idiocy!

George, who used to spend days and nights either under a shrub, or up a tree in the garden of my old place - I now have neither - has taken to 'living' in the back garden one down, and one across!
He is also, now, fat! He could be supplementing his meals with his own catches, eating food put out for hedgehogs, or persuaded neighbours that he's not fed.

Just like to say, the cats come in at least 3 times a day, and George comes in for a cuddle. He also wakes me at 6am by banging the cat flap.

Their mother was a feral cat - it's almost like they took in half of what she said about being feral, but they missed the lesson on shelter! :-S

as long as all of you are happy, thats what counts :-)

It was very good of the council to find them better accommodation and to let them keep their dear old pet as well!

Maggiewinchester. cats are wonderful creatures, amusing, entertaining, interesting and a law unto themselves! One of my cats is so pleased it's started to warm up. Not because she loves the sunshine but because I've discarded my furry "boot" slippers and have restarted wearing my flip-flops. My gorgeous "Spud" loves licking my toes!! Can't say I truly appreciate the gesture but I tolerate it because she rolls around the floor purring wildly in gratitude of my stillness, bless her.

Daughter had 2 cats, the female had to be put to sleep age 16 in December 2018, her brother lived until January 2020 when he had to be put to sleep age 17. Both had developed kidney problems

In July 2020, daughter got a Havanese puppy, he's just turned 1 a week or so ago, and she showed a picture of him sitting half on his bum half on his hip, with both hind legs showing.

The cats used to sit like that.

He has some other behaviours that they also had.

Daughter and family now call him a "cat-dog" :-D :-D :-D :-D

Daddy has got him a BOX!

Well, he had to get some old junk inside it but it is a lovely, magnificent box which was lovely to sit upon before Daddy opened it and now you can get in it and sit up looking around or curl up and go to sleep.

Couldn't wish for a better present. Daddy must love him very much to get him something as wonderful as his box. Until he gets fed up with it and goes on to something else!

Kay, I'm not sure I could cope with a cat licking my toes :-S

Sharron - boxes are sooo passe to my cats. I've tried to lure Betty in with one, it didn't work. At the time, a bag full of bay leaves was the bed of choice, so I put some bay leaves in a box. No good.
The next best place for her was the pile of box hedge clippings on the path.
I gave up.

He is in his at this very moment. Lazing back and looking nonchalant.

A pussy cat of substance!

George heard me speaking to the next door neighbour, so came over the fence, out from the shrub in the garden behind her fence, in search of yet more food.
He ate - then disappeared back to his shrub - which, it appears, doesn't protect his rear end from the rain..

Betty's asleep in the rain - she came in for some food, so she's still alive, and went out again.

Sharron .............my daughter's male cat loooooooooooooved boxes, and suitcases. :-D

You couldn't put an empty one down before Zephyr was in it. I have some lovely photos of our small grey case sitting on the bed empty with just one or two small items in the bottom and Z sitting there very proudly looking around. I had literally only just taken the stuff out and turned my back. There had been no sign of him at that moment. He then lay down and started to make himself comfortable.

Z loved being high, and he would sit there in that lovely cat position, tail wrapped around his feet watching everything. His sister preferred being under things ....... under a coffee table, under a dining chair, under the Christmas tree :-D

However, they mostly slept together during the day......... curled round each other on daughter's bed.

They were indoor cats, never let out .............cats allowed to go outside don't have too much chance of survival. Coyotes soon catch them.

He might have a box of his very own, and a fine box it is too, but it didn't stop him sleeping in front of the pan in the bathroom last night.

He wouldn't move either!

At least he must have kept your toes warm :-D

He nearly got wet!

Then he would have been warmed too ( for a bit). ;-) :-D
