I'm pleased you got sorted, Kath.

Earlier today I noticed my Renew tab was lit, so I clicked and easily renewed at a favourable rate, same as last year.

Afterwards I realised I had actually changed my bank card a couple of months ago, - same account, just new card.so e mailed support.

They replied promptly to say that the payment had nevertheless gone through OK and I was paid up until June 2022.

Pleasantly surprised that there was no hassle.

Finally got my renewal sorted today. After many emails back and forth someone at Genes support agreed that I can continue with the £8.96p price.

It took days for them to answer each email and as the renewal date was looming I sent them a cheque as the renew button only let to the higher price that they'd taken last year and then had to partially refund. I sent them an email telling them about the cheque which they replied to.

Lo and behold they then took the bigger amount from my son's Paypal account again. I emailed them this morning (figuring no one would be working the bank holiday) and they immediately refunded my son - so all should be o.k. for another year.

If I renew next year I will send them a cheque at the beginning of May so there is no excuse for not having time to sort it. What a palaver!

You are quite right Island.

When I mentioned the "grandfathered" subs his response was just "Well, prices do go up you know". I said I wasn't prepared to pay more when some people still paid the smaller amount.

Anyway - still no response from Genes support.

Bring back Estelle and Phil.

They tell big fat porkies.
There hasn't been any decent staff since Estelle and Phil left.

Keeping the 'grandfathered' sub is a con too.
They know if they put it up to be in line with new memberships they would risk losing income.

I phoned Findmypast yesterday and to say they were less than helpful would be an understatement.

I explained the problem and was told that they couldn't help because I had phoned Findmypast and my subscription was with Genes. I pointed out that Genes is owned by Findmypast and that I had already emailed Genes without response but the man on the phone just kept saying he couldn't help because they were separate companies.

However he did confirm that the email to Genes had been received (How if they are different companies :-S).

I just have to wait for a response from support at Genes :-(

I have just hit the renew button and picked the STANDARD option 83p per month crossed out to 75p per month. I also updated my card as the previous one had expired, and have just got my receipt for £8.96.

My account showed $8.96 when I clicked on RENEW.

I also had to enter a new card number as we'd had to have it replaced due to a possible scam ................ so I think I ran over by a day until I found out how to enter the new number. But I still got the low price.

I think JustGinnie has it right ........ you actually paid £18 last year according to their record, there must not be a way for them to register that you were refunded.

Try phoning them, see if anyone answers the phone. You'll find the FMP number under Contacts towards the bottom of the screen.

I found out the hard way that if you have a new debit card you wait until the date your subscription runs out and then a box appears with details for entry of a new debit card!!

I was told at the time that Genes gives you a couple of weeks in which to pay, so you don't lose out. I've done this twice now, without problem.

I'll be annoyed if it is because my subscription ran out last year because I had sent a cheque in plenty of time but obviously I didn't know there was no one to cash it. Because of that I ended up blocked from the boards for 3 days while they sorted out for my son to pay via Paypal.

We'll see what Genes have to say..

I wonder if it is showing the higher price because that is what you paid last time and then had a refund of the difference. As your son paid it you could be down as not renewing on time so you are classed as rejoining not renewing.
Hope you get a answer from Genes soon.

Don’t think that’s the case Linda. I never have auto renew on and have only ever paid the low price. I know if you have a break in membership you get charged the higher price when you return

I leave the auto renewal on and only pay £8.96
If I remember correctly as long as you left the auto renew on, you stayed on the low rate. The people who turned it off were hit with the price increases
