Peter Hitchins :-D

Any little thing to catch out someone who is abusing his position in the way that Maggie wrote above.

It shows the calibre of some of our devious politicians who grab at anything to try to excuse their behaviour when it comes to handing out millions of our cash to family and friends. It also shows what they really think of the general public - disdain at the very least.

Most of us knew about the situation but could do nothing (until the next election) about it if other ministers disregarded the wrongdoing.

One person must have patiently waited his/her chance - probably as fed up as we were in watching certain people and firms making millions out of the taxpayer in a most underhanded, inexcusable way.

I find it strange that Dido Harding can actualy apply for Government funded jobs, when her husband is the Government Anti-Corruption Champion!

I don’t, Maggie, however ….. there’s no way her husband could not have known what was going on as far as tenders (or not, as the case may be) are concerned if he and his officers were doing their jobs properly. Even if they did not work on that particular aspect of the job it was fairly obvious to the public. (Investigative journalism is good.)

Perhaps their perception of corruption is different from mine or more likely I think someone’s voice was going unheard.

I think the list of possible whistleblowers grows longer every day. :-0

Someone, somewhere, with a lot of patience, must have been exasperated by the utter waste of public money and perhaps with the thoughts of having to pay it back via direct and indirect tax rises.

Do you ever get the impression that many think of us as plebs?

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 27 Jun 2021 11:45

Names, I think you may be right.

I can imagine some of them rubbing their hands in glee, thinking which of their family and acquaintances can best help them when their allotted time in power is over …. then directing the millions to keep them sweet enough to offer them a lucrative position when it’s all over.

Something rotten in the state of …..

They are absolutely vital in government workplaces, Shirley.

They’re even in other places - petrol stations, for example.

So surely they must have known there was cameras around ?

Wouldn’t security cameras only be in public areas though

Most people would have understood what Brandon Lewis meant by saying ‘the tape’. What do you think he should have said?

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 28 Jun 2021 14:14

What a waste of time trying to find out who let the cat out of the bag!

They need to get down to the nitty-gritty and spend time trying to claw back some of the misdirected millions if only to ease the burden of every member of the public - after all, we all pay tax one way or another.

AnninGlos Report 28 Jun 2021 14:25

While I agree with you Joy, It is also important to find out if there is potential for a worse security leak. Is there somebody in security for example not to be trusted.
Namelessone I think it might have made more sense if he had said something like who had the ability to acquire information from the security system. Maybe his 'who had purloined the tape' was tongue in cheek?

I would imagine it would not be too difficult to pin down the suspects…surely just a few will have access to that office.

However maybe the night cleaner decided to have a Netflix evening :-D :-D

Ann. :-D :-D :-D

I wouldn’t waste time on trying to find who did it, I’m afraid, as I think security of real state secrets would be harder to crack than what’s going on in the corridors and offices of MPs.

But that’s just my opinion, some may think differently.

Reminder to self: if I am propositioned next time I go to the Passport Office or LA HQ, don’t do anything in the confines that I wouldn’t want anyone at all knowing about! ;-)

It makes me wonder what they’ve got for brains …. I know what my OH’s answer would be. :-D :-0
