Hope all goes well with the buying Allan and well done on the selling. It does all seem so 'clean; compared with our system. Much better to have the first contract binding and no gazumping.

So much for that!

The sale of our house has fallen through :-(

It turned out that the prospective buyers did NOT have pre-arranged finance as they had told the Estate Agent, and were knocked back for a loan by the Bank :-|

We still have an offer on the house we wish to buy, but we haven't yet been advised that the offer has been accepted.

There are still people interested in our place but to say that we are disappointed is an understatement

So, they lied to the realtor. Not on!!

Hope one of the other interested buyers comes up trumps for you, and that it happens in time for you to go ahead with buying the house that you want.

Here, it would be possible to get a bridging loan to cover the interval between you buying the new house and getting the money from the sale of your old one, if contracts had been signed (and sometimes even if there haven't been any bites, but I don't like that idea!!).

Yes we do, Sylvia, but given our age the Banks wouldn't give us a loan.

We have more than enough in our super funds to buy the other house but that leads to a couple of other problems: as we are now drawing our super we can longer put money into the account so that when our house eventually sells the proceeds will have to go into our bank account which currently is earning virtually no interest.

The other problem is connected the one just mentioned: if we buy the other house before selling this we end up having two houses one of which would be considered an 'asset by the Feds for Heath Care Card purposes and we would lose that card meaning we have to pay full price for all our medications plus lose some other benefits as well.

Similarly, if we put the money if the bank following the sale, that would also take us over the asset limit, so we have to sell our house first :-(

Of course it wouldn't work for you, and you have to sell the house first!!

Really sorry to hear of these latest developments... What a shame, when all seemed to be going so well.

All is not lost, as you still have people interested in your home, so I hope a purchase can be completed soon,so that you can buy the new property of choice.

Oh dear allan, so stressful and how dishonest of the couple that wanted to buy it. Or maybe they really did think they could get the money and loved the house so much they risked it. Not honest though. I hope that it all comes right for you eventually.

You have my sympathy. We were in a similar situation years ago. Wanted to sell our house in Chatham and move to Newark.

Within hours of putting the house up for sale a lady from Gillingham wanted the house. She was in rented accommodation so just needed a mortgage. We raced up to Newark and found an almost completed new house and put down a deposit. It was Easter time. A couple of months later I asked the estate agent to find out if the lady had her mortgage. She'd gone off the idea of buying a house but never told us.

A couple came who had 1 child, wanted the house but couldn't get a mortgage for the amount required. During the summer holidays no-one came.

Now it was mid September and we were getting pressure from the builder in Newark. It was a Saturday, weather not too good so the children were playing indoors and watching Saturday morning TV. Lunch time and I was just about to make lunch when the phone rang, a coupe wanted to see the house. I explained I had to feed the children so the couple went off for their lunch after a time had been decided on for them to come to see the house. A quick lunch and an even quicker tidy up.

They were a couple from London, just married, no children and one of their fathers willing to give them a handsome deposit. Loved the house and they wanted a fast move as only in rented accommodation. We moved out 6 weeks later on the 4th November and into our new house on the 5th, the children were happy as they got invited to next door's bonfire :-D

Sometimes it just falls into place and I hope that happens to you Allan.

Well after a lot of clatting around we will be on the move early in March. Settlement on this house took place on Monday morning and on Monday afternoon we were shown a property which was about to hit the market and we bought it.

We are renting this house back until then :-D

Belle, after all the houses we have seen we call this one our 'Goldilocks' house. The others have been either too large or too small; this one is just right :-D

Is it far from your present abode, so that you can keep up with any social activities ?
I know you were hoping to stay in the same general area, because of family links.

Our new house is about 6 kms from our present abode. Although it is in a different Local Government area we know the area very well as we use the shopping centre which is only a couple of kms away In addition the Medical Practice where we are registered also has a surgery in Eaton.

I did work for the Shire of Dardanup (our new Council area) for sixteen years and I well remember this particular area being developed.

Basically, we've moved just down the road so apart from the water views nothing has changed except that we no longer have any stairs and a slightly smaller garden :-D
