This is the reply I had enquiring whether the Book Club was still a going concern as people had not had their June messages opened.
'Thank you for your email.

We are sorry to hear that you have had an issue with the book club.

We have checked with our Marketing Team and they have advised that there has been a delay with the publisher sending out copies of this months book. We don't have copies of the books, they are sent out directly by Penguin.

Our Marketing Team are currently in contact with the publisher to resolve the issue with the delay.

Your patience while we work to resolve this is much appreciated.

With kind regards,

Liam Kelly
Genes Reunited Support Team'
Not that helpful!,

Thanks Whizz, not at all helpful and not an answer to the question either. Why can't they read the question instead of sending out a stock reply.

Community Manager Advisor Report 17 Jul 2015 13:59

Afternoon everyone,

Apologies for taking so long to post a response for this - I have been waiting on a proper update about why these emails have been unopened.

The Book Club team have been investigating some reported delays around the sending of these books. To avoid any overlap or further issues, they wanted to ensure that everything was up to date with the previous month before starting to open the most recent emails.

Everything should start getting back to normal from today - but please let me know if the unopened emails is still an issue next week and I will look into this again for you.

Regards

Alison

Thank you Alison. I wonder did it not occur to anyone from the team to just put a note to that effect on their thread, it would have saved your time and a lot of toing and froing and misleading e mails.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to find out what the problem is. Maybe Penguin are not really interested any more. :-(

I agree with Glossie Ann.

It would have been so simple for GR to put an addendum to the original post about Man at the Helm and we would not all be wondering why our messages are unopened.

Do Penguin read our reviews?

Good morning, Alison -

Even though you said on this thread, on 16th July, "The CM doesn't look after the Book Club", I see you are responding to book club queries.

Will it be possible for you to have a look at the "Question for our new community manager" thread soon, please?

Posts on there are directly within your remit, but there have been no comments from you there since 15th May 2015.

Thank you.

Another week on and my message has still not been opened.

I do understand that it is a genealogy site and genealogy queries should come first.

Having said that, GR instituted the Book Club and on 9th June members were asked to apply for the next book by 16 June. I think it is extremely discourteous that the messages are still unopened on 24 July.

Out of interest, has anyone actually received Man at The Helm? I am not bothered that I haven't but would be interested to know if this has folded. :-S

Just as well you didn't all give up on the Greaders when the book club started...Well done Ann for keeping it going for so long. How many years has it been now?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 Aug 2015 17:23

Well, I didn't start it but I think I belonged to it in about 2004/5, took it over when Mike somebody or other gave up and left. possibly about 2006/7 so quite a long time. Sadly not many of us now, there used to be a lot more. But we are still reading.

Message unopened. No book received.
Maybe something happened from Penguin which was beyond the control of Genes Reunited. But with no explanation offered I think it is very rude.
