You are not the only person getting pm's instead of the poster replying on the thread.

The reason for this is normally because they either do not know how to reply on the thread....or they think they have.

As I said if you have no interest in helping the OP to find their way back and post in the correct place...then I shall say no more.

If it a living relative we are talking about (which is what this thread is about) then should you find an address or birth details ect, you should then send it by pm but also post on the thread somehing like "Address sent by PM" or "Birth details sent by PM" that way everyone else looking at the thread knows what is going on

Sylvia,
I didn't have anything to reply on the post,,,,,,the OP contacted me by PM...

I replied by PM..

I do not think it is up to me to find the post and report the PM's,,,,,I think it is up to the OP...

IF the OP has the info (via their PM's),,,,,,I think it is up to the OP to say so...

Jax,,
in regards to
""I really do not know what that link has to do with this thread.

If it is too much trouble for you Kellie to be a team player then I suggest this site is not for you.""

If someone PM's me why should I have to find the post and report a PM??
Cannot the person who PM'd me....make a note on the thread??

I did reply by PM and the OP has name,,address and phone number for the people named...
I cannot mark the post as DONE...
It isn't my issue that the OP is in one country and the "people being looked for" are in another and the phoning/contact times do not match...

Do I???
Post on the thread,,,,info has been supplied....or wait until the OP has made contact???

OR wait for the OP to say/post something??

Kellie

Saying on the thread that you have sent a pm re possible living relatives not only is a hint to other helpers

............... but also helps to prevent them sending pms to the requester

It is always possible that several people will work on the search ....... and the poor OP will get inundated with pms!

As jax says, this site is a team site. All the helpers work together on requesting threads ............ and GR does not interfere with that

.................. we usually keep away from threads offering help by others, eg Cherilyn or TonyinOz .............. that is just common courtesy.

I really do not know what that link has to do with this thread.

If it is too much trouble for you Kellie to be a team player then I suggest this site is not for you.

Cynthia spends her time on the boards helping new people find their way back to their threads if they have had replies....if the OP says thank you by pm or continues asking questions by pm how is anyone else going to know whats going on?

If they are new members Kellie, then they probably won't think to go back to their thread to let people know where they are up to. They will just get the info or whatever from the pm and disappear.

If whoever has helped them could kindly put something tactfully on the thread to say what has been done, it saves other members wasting their time looking for information.

You don't have to go scouting through pages to find a thread if you have already been on it.......simply click on My Threads on the left as jax has said and you will find it there.

Hope this helps. Cx

No sorry jax,,,
there was a heap of messgaes before I replied...
I just do not think it is my issue to go find the original post when the OP PM's me

I found it...9 pages back
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/living_relatives/thread/1294032

Replied to....

Why do I have to post the stuff if they PM??
Cannot they say they have PM'd and got a response??

It isn't my thread.....why do I have to keep everyone uptodate just because they PM me????

Kellie

The most common reason for getting a reply by pm, is that the OP is new and they see "send message" and think thats what you do.

If you recieve a pm like this then direct them back to the thread and where to add the reply in future.

Yes we all get pm's and have to go looking for original post, but it does'nt matter what board it is on just click on "My threads"

The only info that should be sent by pm is that of a sensitive nature or details about living people i.e births, marriages address's phone numbers ect

This is what this thread is for ...to remind anyone helping on this board in particular, to mention on the thread they have sent details by pm and a clue as to what it is

Sad_Mushroom

Sad_Mushroom Report 20 Apr 2012 13:40

OK,,,,I do not think I explained myself very well....

IF I reply to a post then a while later the OP contacts me by PM....
I reply by PM....

Should I have to go looking for the original post (even though I'm not sure which board it was on) OR should the OP just state on their THREAD that they have had a reply???

I'm not even sure of the Original Thread name or which board it was on,,,,but it is about living peopl so I think it was here...

MAYBE you should ask the OP's if they PM someone and get a reply,,,the OP should post that on their thread....??

Does that make sense???
