If your colleague saw the actual records she must have seen the surname to know it wasn't Leadbetter!!! however, all the evidence so far points towards it being Margaret Leadbetter.. Perhaps it would be more productive to track Ellen Graces' siblings marriages and subsequent children.

Her death certificate gave her age. Plus i have info from A lady called Sue Seddon who corroberated all the details i had already.
She also said her mother's name was Margaret as her Baptism shows but her surname was not Leadbetter.
She looked at the actual records.

We are trying to give you answers Sylvia

The chance of anyone who was decended from this person that was born 200 years ago seeing this is rather slim....all we can suggest is that you try contacting anyone else that has her in their tree.

You say she was born Prescot? 1851 census says Tarbock....I do not know the area but Other half came from that area and says they are close by as is Speke and Hale.

I did ask how you know that the baptism in 1816 belongs to her? if it was because it said he was born 1816 on the census or was it her death cert gave her age making her born 1816?? You can really just give or take a couple of years in some cases as a lot of people did'nt know when they were born, as it did'nt matter like it does now days

I just thought living relatives might have some answers.

jax

jax Report 17 Dec 2012 22:11

As per Sylvia's OP she is looking for anyone who has Ellen Grace in their tree,

Whether she posts on this or any other board it does not really matter (as long as the request is not duplicated)...we are just trying to work out whether she is following the correct person at this stage

The John Grace who is on the 1841 census childwall, prescot aged 65, was only ever married to Alice up to 1841. They have a bunch of children, one of whom was Elizabeth born 1814, parents John and Alice (nee Atherton) Grace. That being the case, this John Grace cannot be Ellen Graces' father.

Where have you see John Grace (Ellens father) on the 1841 census please?

jax

jax Report 17 Dec 2012 17:49

How do you know that is her baptism?

Also as already mentioned she married John Lomax and it is also recorded as Lomax in the 1851

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 17 Dec 2012 17:11

So sorry i thought I had updated my records.Ellen Grace was baptised in St Mary the Virgin in Prescot on 19/05/1816.

jax

jax Report 17 Dec 2012 15:10

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 17 Dec 2012 10:49

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 16 Dec 2012 20:52

Something to remember when searching the 1841 census -

In the 1841 Census a policy of rounding down ages was in place. As such, people aged:

15-19 were recorded as 15
20-24 were recorded as 20
25-29 were recorded as 25
30-34 were recorded as 30
35-39 were recorded as 35...and so on

Had a look at the 1841 census, John Grace 1775/6 also appears on the 1851 census. On the 1841 census, Alice Grace appears under his name born around the same time. Did he remarry? How do you know this is the correct John as some of the childrens dates of birth seem to clash with the ones I found above as children of John and Margaret, although I know birth dates could be quite a few years out..

trailertrash Report 16 Dec 2012 16:11

Sorry Sylvia, thought I was on the right track. Why do you think Margaret was not a Leadbetter??

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 16 Dec 2012 15:34

John Grace is on the 1841 census aged 65.
We have been led to believe Margaret his wife was not a Leadbetter.

trailertrash Report 16 Dec 2012 15:10

I think John Grace married Margaret Leadbeater (Leadbetter)1808 Childhall/Childwall.(Liverpool area)

The subsequent children were born around the Liverpool area Thomas 1812 St Helens,Prescot, Sarah 1815 Havertree, Ellen 1816 Prescot and William 1823 Prescot.

By the 1841 census, I believe John Grace had died and this is Margaret, Ellens mother

1841 Margaret Grace 1796 Lancs farmer - no husband presumabley a widow
1851 Margaret Grace 1792 born Prescot - farmer widow plus a servant, Margaret Taylor who was born in Childwall (where Margaret married John)

The address is Hale Road, Speke, Prescot.

Also living 2 doors up from Margaret Grace is a Leadbetter family who I would speculate are related to Margaret.

If anyone else has any other ideas - let me know

I see Ellen had siblings, Thomas 1812, Sarah 1815, William 1823 and possibly others. Have you tried tracing their families and sharing information??

On Familysearch, Johns' surname is spelt Lomax.
