No he wasnt her father. She was reg as surname Rae . would guess her birth cert doesnt show a fathers name. Fred though "took" her on when he married Lillian.

It seems she stayed with him too as they came back together in 1945. Perhaps Liilian had left them . Margaret by then was 20 so would have made her own mind up.

not seeing any marriage for Margaret as Rae or Freemanltle.maybe she never married.
She may have died post 2005/6 which is the last records you can find online , This is why i suggested she may have been an informant on the later certs

Hi Shirley
From the shipping records you have found, it looks as though Margaret elected to be with her "father" after his marital break-up rather than her mother. Frederick's lone trip to Durban (Port Natal) South Africa in 1954 may therefore have been to be nearer Margaret
If Margaret got married or died in South Africa, it will be very difficult to trace this as I think South African records are unindexed. Correct me if I am wrong.
Can you also tell me where you obtained the shipping records you have kindly outlined for me above.
Regards
Colin

Hi Shirley
I have found a potential marriage in Findmypast of a Margaret P Freemantle in Epping, Essex in 1969 but I am not sure if it is the right person and who her husband was. Unfortunately it has not yet been transcribed in FreeBMD.

Colin

Shirley
Thanks for the info.
I am not worried about the differing intials because I have come across this before. However I shall probably have to order a copy of the marriage certificate to be absolutely certain its my Margaret.

Hi Shirley
I have just discovered that my Margaret Freemantle married a John H Baker in Aldershot in 1948 and not Wiliam Haywood as I previously thought. They had 4 children Michael, Christopher, Alison and Rosemary and resided in Cobham, Surrey for a while. I have not managed to identify a death record for her or her husband because their names are quite common but she would be 87 years old today. Any ideas for further research?

Hello Interested to see you, Colin Campbell, are researching your grandmothers younger brother’s family, my grandmother was William’s child, her mother Lillian also. I see you have obtained my marriage certificate in 1978. I would be interested in chatting. I had no idea there was a first born son MIchael - my brother and sister only know of us three. Might there be a mistake in that ? Look forward to hearing - Alison Dawn Baker
