Right...so I suppose things like that did happen where the people gave slightly in accurate info on the census forms....

So the 1911 census is correct although it looks like they lied about being married at the time

Did your dad have lots of siblings? There are several Brett/Parker births in Shoreditch district.

Just to let you all know my Dads birth cert arrived today..it reads Henry John Brett b. 1911 to parents Henry John Brett and Janet Brett nee Parker, living at old Bethnal green road. Great to get that confirmed.......Regards Susan

Thanks..sorry wasn't able to sign in over the past few days. All the above info is a great help. The birth cert hopefully will arrive soon. so really its when there is a father mentioned of the person you are tracing or getting a birth cert for is what you really need. Regards Susan

If you got the info about his father from your parents' marriage cert, bear in mind that it may not be 100% accurate.

Unless, of course, you knew your grandfather..................

I ordered the cert for my Dad Henry John brett....but all I could add was his fathers name, which was the same as his....

As the Romford one died as a baby...yes

There is a tree on ancestry that gives Henry and Elizabeth as his parents??? not impossible but you will find out when you get the cert

Thanks...Henry was father to Frederick and was married to Mary Ada Jane, fred his son was born in 1952

On the marriage cert it says father is Henry John Brett retired Checker Timber merchant this was in 1952 when he was 41 no mention of father being dec'd

Amelia would have been old enough to get pregnant. It's not unknown for grandparents to bring the child up as their own.
Which cert did you order Susan?
