MAybe John Henry Holdsworth married in WHarfedale in 1947? Is this to the then J M Holdsworth who travelled on the ship in 1948 - what was Mrs J M Holdsworth's maiden name?

Is it the Joyce Mary from the electoral roll in Australia?

So it looks like the Joyce Mary Grano who marries John Henry Holdsworth in ( what place is not clear - any ideas????) is the same one who goes in 1948 to Freemantle. I wonder what the marriage records show as to who is Henry's father - I guess this would prove if it is the one I am looking for. Also strange to see that they arrive in Australia but then no idea what happens to them???????????? I mean they show on the electoral roll but seems like no way of knowing if they are alive or if they died (when).

This is because like most similar countries except England Wales and Scotland, Australian states have privacy laws that prevent personal information like birth and marriage records being disclosed to the public while the people can be expected to be living, and also limit the disclosure of death records for a certain period. Also those records are maintained by the individual states in Australia so there is no central index, and some states have genealogical records (before the privacy cut-offs) on line while others don't.

The fact that Ancestry makes electoral rolls for some countries available, and FindMyPast makes passenger records available, means that some information like what is here can be found for after the cut-off dates but I am still not persuaded that this information about living people should be posted in a forum like this where anyone with a search engine can find it.

What is unclear about the place Staincliffe?

If you do not know where it is google it..

They may not be the people you are looking for, but without seeing the marriage cert it is hard to tell

so seems like Joyce Mary Grano enters into UK - maybe she is from Australia? and maybe she came to UK to marry - tried to find where she is from and when she entered UK - any help?

They marry and almost immediately seem to go to Aus

I wonder if John Henry had been out there before? No sign of him leaving or entering UK???

She came to the UK with her mother?? in 1947 from Australia and they all left in 1948

does Buckerton Yorkshire mean anything to you?

The name of the person they were going to stay with was John Oldsworth...obviously a typo error

The daughter appears to be listed in the telephone directory by all three initials

http://www.whitepages.com.au/

At this point contacting her directly would be better than continuing to discuss her family on the internet.

I know of Bickerton in Yorkshire, but not Buckerton! Maybe it was a typing error. What ship did they come to UK on? I couldn't find them

I would contact direct but I don't find her!!!! I guess I am doing something wrong!!

Yes you would have k. It always pays to google names of people you are looking for.

Personally, I know the name Holdsworth from a village called Kettlewell which is not very far from Buckden. This particular branch of the Holdsworth family used to own a house called Scargill which is about a mile outside of Kettlewell. The local town is Skipton.

If you google Holdsworths/Yorkshire, there is a great deal of information which may be interesting to you.

Hope this helps.
