Yes you would have k. It always pays to google names of people you are looking for.

Personally, I know the name Holdsworth from a village called Kettlewell which is not very far from Buckden. This particular branch of the Holdsworth family used to own a house called Scargill which is about a mile outside of Kettlewell. The local town is Skipton.

If you google Holdsworths/Yorkshire, there is a great deal of information which may be interesting to you.

Hope this helps.

Ok, now I found her - I had a typo!!!

k

k Report 24 Nov 2013 15:41

I know of Bickerton in Yorkshire, but not Buckerton! Maybe it was a typing error. What ship did they come to UK on? I couldn't find them

I would contact direct but I don't find her!!!! I guess I am doing something wrong!!

JoonieCloonie Report 24 Nov 2013 14:34

The daughter appears to be listed in the telephone directory by all three initials

At this point contacting her directly would be better than continuing to discuss her family on the internet.

She came to the UK with her mother?? in 1947 from Australia and they all left in 1948

does Buckerton Yorkshire mean anything to you?

The name of the person they were going to stay with was John Oldsworth...obviously a typo error

k

k Report 24 Nov 2013 14:09

so seems like Joyce Mary Grano enters into UK - maybe she is from Australia? and maybe she came to UK to marry - tried to find where she is from and when she entered UK - any help?

They marry and almost immediately seem to go to Aus

I wonder if John Henry had been out there before? No sign of him leaving or entering UK???

jax

jax Report 24 Nov 2013 13:14

What is unclear about the place Staincliffe?

If you do not know where it is google it..

They may not be the people you are looking for, but without seeing the marriage cert it is hard to tell

JoonieCloonie Report 24 Nov 2013 13:08

This is because like most similar countries except England Wales and Scotland, Australian states have privacy laws that prevent personal information like birth and marriage records being disclosed to the public while the people can be expected to be living, and also limit the disclosure of death records for a certain period. Also those records are maintained by the individual states in Australia so there is no central index, and some states have genealogical records (before the privacy cut-offs) on line while others don't.

The fact that Ancestry makes electoral rolls for some countries available, and FindMyPast makes passenger records available, means that some information like what is here can be found for after the cut-off dates but I am still not persuaded that this information about living people should be posted in a forum like this where anyone with a search engine can find it.

k Report 24 Nov 2013 07:14

So it looks like the Joyce Mary Grano who marries John Henry Holdsworth in ( what place is not clear - any ideas????) is the same one who goes in 1948 to Freemantle. I wonder what the marriage records show as to who is Henry's father - I guess this would prove if it is the one I am looking for. Also strange to see that they arrive in Australia but then no idea what happens to them???????????? I mean they show on the electoral roll but seems like no way of knowing if they are alive or if they died (when).

MAybe John Henry Holdsworth married in WHarfedale in 1947? Is this to the then J M Holdsworth who travelled on the ship in 1948 - what was Mrs J M Holdsworth's maiden name?

Is it the Joyce Mary from the electoral roll in Australia?

k

k Report 18 Nov 2013 15:54

Interesting to see who else lived there - now I need to find out how to get marriage details for this John Henry Holdsworth to see if he is the one I am looking for. Any ideas how this is possible as all the sites I looked at seem to suggest that cannot access marriages that were in last 70 or so years? So I am no nearer being able to prove if this is the chap from England

Responding to the request for ER details with no superstition that it is the person whom k seeks

Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980 about John Henry Holdsworth

Only John Henry Holdsworth listed.
As the surnames are arranged alphabetically, there is no way of knowing if anyone else was living there

k

k Report 18 Nov 2013 12:10

The John Henry Holdsworth is unlikely as it would mean his birth details are way out - this one is born 1927.

I found a mention of a John Henry Holdsworth in Curtin in West Australia in 1977 and 1980 electoral roll but cannot see who else is living there or any other details as don't have a subscription on Ancestry.

Best to have info to hand when posting and replying. We know you know the ancestors but that info can be useful and important for finding later info and it is unfair for people to be searching with the wrong info.

for instance: Death records in NSW are searchable (up to 1982) by the parents' given names so I was looking for parents with the wrong names.

(birth marriage death records in Australia are held separately for each state and only some are searchable on line, I happened to find that John Henry Holdsworth death in NSW in newspaper notices at the Ryerson Index site and still think it would be worth investigating)

k Report 17 Nov 2013 20:26

Well spotted my mistakes! I was in a rush and muddled the names. The 1923 is a transcript error on his christening record as there is says born 1923 but yes he was born in fact in 1921!

I am away from my info at the moment but I have most of his ancestors, it is more of looking into where John and sister Mary went and what families they had etc and if any living relatives.
