It doesn't look like there are any living descendants of the family, none of them appear to have had children.

And I agree with Pat, I think the death she posted is the most likely for the Sophia you are looking for.

John,

Why do you say that the death that I posted is the wrong one?

She died in Hounslow after living in Hounslow Avenue...

Dr Dora Janet Burman Savage (née Falconer), born 11th March 1911 in Colmbrook, nr London. Passed away in her sleep in the early hours of 18th December 2010. Dora Savage graduated from the Royal Free Medical School and went on to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1942. Dr Savage had an eventful career serving in the RAMC in East Africa during the War, treating wounded soldiers from the Far East, ending up with the rank of Lt. Col., and later working with her husband Dr Richard Savage in Nigeria. She will be missed by all those who knew her. The Funeral will take place at Mortlake Crematorium Monday 17th January 2011 11 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to Nazareth House, Hammersmith, would be appreciated in gratitude for the excellent care she received there in her final years.

So no mention of any children - from Daily Telegraph.

There's a obituary in the Times in 2011 for Dora, but you have to subscribe to view full article.

OOPS, am repeating you Pat ;-)

Dora's obituary was in The Times and lots of information in various journals and articles.

You need to pay to fund The Times archived information - should say who her family was, if any.

Does this imply no children if using Dora?

John Downie Falconer (1876-1947) was a graduate of the University who became Lecturer in Geography, 1911 to 1916.

Born in Midlothian, Falconer graduated MA from the University (Glasgow) in 1897 and BSc (1901) and DSc (1906) from the University of Edinburgh. He was an assistant to Professor James Geike at Edinburgh before he was appointed Principal of the Mineral Survey of Northern Nigeria in 1904. After spending five years at the University as a lecturer, Falconer returned to Africa in 1916 and became Director of the Geological Survey of Nigeria from 1918 to 1927. He was subsequently the Geologist to the Republic of Uruguay.

So could be his son born in Scotland

Need to look on Scottish records for family of John Geikie Falconer

And death record to see who the informant was.

In 1965 Sophia and John G Falconer were living 10 Hounslow Avenue - they were also there in 1963, which confirmed her initials as Sophia M E D. They could be cousins, but not sure.

This could confirm he left the navy in 1962, as he doesn't appear on later navy lists.

Flip Report 2 Mar 2014 08:18

John Downie moved back and forth to Nigeria 1917/26, on one of the incoming passenger lists he states last permanent residence as Scotland - so I was wondering the same, was the other child born Scotland.

If John jnr was a nephew, is it likely he would have been named on probate?

patchem

patchem Report 2 Mar 2014 07:56

I cannot see a birth for the 'brother'.

Added:
Could he be a nephew, and born Scotland?
