In that case, some discretion is needed, to avoid invading her privacy.

One has to wonder what exactly 'Waspie' is looking for.

Hello again Folks,
Good news, Waspie has been in and confirmed our good progress. He confirmed that Sylvia Jane is in fact his mother, he had seen an old photo of her with a soldier on her arm and he was told that he was Arthur Edwin Bland. Her first husband.

Waspie would still appreciate any info on A E B. It does appear that he might be the death in Lancs, Liverpool, ealy in 1979.. He knows nothing of his ancestry.

The shipping report of Sylvia going to Ceylon does in fact look like returning to Ceylon and to her two siblings Elizabeth and Basil who had been left in Ceylon whilst she and her parents visited England. Hence no English birth certificate. Celon history back to 1850.

Kenneth Humphrey has found Sylvia,s 2nd. husband as Douglas Hill b1928, followed by eight siblings.

Cheers Burt

Waspie is going to have to shell out on some certificates I think if he wants further info

Sylvia didnt marry as Sylvia Jane to Arthur Bland

When Arthur died in 1979 Sylvia would be about 53 years of age so a bit old to be having another child after then

Unless of course they had separated and remarried

Name: Sylvia Bland
Spouse Surname: Hill
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1950
Registration district: Watford

Name: Douglas Hill
Spouse Surname: Bland Or Horsfall
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1950

that looks more like it !!

Edited as you say Sylvia is still alive

Kenneth,

Always a good idea to post on this thread if you are sending private PMs to Burt so efforts aren't duplicated.

I wonder whether we should now hold fire on this......clearly, the original enquiry was based on fabrications (through no fault of Burt's), so we could be causing problems.

We cant supply all the info your friend wants

HE will have to buy his mums first marriage cert for its info so it can be cross checked with the BMDs for her first hubby

Not everything is cut and dried . We have all had to buy certs to verify the right family to keep our family research on track

Family Trees arent straight forward and easily tracked through the records . Yes some are BUT then some have twists and turns .

This is why certs are a necessary along the way

Hello Folks,
Quite clearly Shirley has got the hang of it and Reggie feels it,s time to hang up and I agree with you.

The original request was for info on A E B and you have shown that he appears to have re-married then died in Liverpool as detailed.

I know Waspie does appreciate all the additional info provided, he has told me why he wishes to be an unkown and I do respect his wishes.

Thanks to you all and, Here endeth the lesson Amen.

Cheers Burt.

Burt just one thing I thought might be worth mentioning

someone at this website has in their tree a Sylvia Horsfall born 1925 London

... but there was no such birth
(edit - I understand that 'your' Sylvia's birth birth was in Ceylon ... this is why I was suggesting that the birth shown in the member's tree was probably 'your' Sylvia, since there is no other Sylvia it could be)

it seems that Sylvia and Douglas had children after the Aldershot-born children and I think you'll find the tree owner is one of them

(two of those births appear at FreeBMD but not the one in question)

trying to contact that person by doing the tree search for Sylvia could put your friend in touch with the family if that is what he wants

at least one of the other younger children also has a tree at this site

HI Joonie,
The birth was in Ceylon.

One tree owner is Dorian, their youngest child.

Cheers Burt.

So WHAT is Waspie trying to find out?

He misled us - and possibly you - by claiming that the Bland man was his uncle, when he obviously wasn't................

Burt

Burt Report 17 May 2014 11:42

Steady Reggie, he was after, and still is, A E B,s ancestry.

But he was trying to protect his own identity and I now know his reasons which I accept.

Cheers Burt

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 17 May 2014 13:13

He doesn't have to reveal his identity Burt.

To find out about his mums first hubby he needs to get their marriage cert

It will give the grooms age at marriage and his fathers name .

This can then be cross checked against the births and the death so as the right family can be picked up .

We can't supply that info only the cert will

He could have asked for info about the man without resorting to fabrication.
