I've been trying to find Jean Ramsey who I believe was born at the end of 1944. She had a younger brother. Jean went to Queens Girls School, Wimbledon and became a hairdresser. I have tried marriage records, but to no avail. I'd appreciate any help. Many thanks, Joyce

Look for her at Friends reunited....school-based.

As you are unsure of her correct name and birth date, one assumes you are not related

Have you tired to verify her surname and birth by looking for info on freebmd?

There is a Jean born in Romford in 1942/1943, with a brother born in 1946 - ages too far out?

All the other births are even further away from Wimbledon.

Do you know if she was born locally or could have moved there from elsewhere?

Hello - I've looked on Friends Reunited and found nothing.
I'm almost sure she was born late 1944, but it could be early 1945.
Her brother was about 6-8 years younger than her.
She could well have been born away from the London area.

I also know that during 1956-1960 she lived in what-is-now Springfield Road, Wimbledon. This road had a name-change and was called 'Park Road' Wimbledon in those days.

There is a possibility of her parents and brother having emigrated at some time during the 1960s. (Australia and New Zealand spring to mind). However, the last I heard was that Jean wasn't going to go with them. But, who knows???

Thank you for your help.

Many thanks for this. I'll start working thtough the most likely ones.
No, she didn't have any siblings.

Could you make up you mind, please.

You say she had a brother.............then you say that she didn't have any siblings..........

Which is it?

Reggie,

I think Joyce meant that Jean had one brother, but no other siblings.

Her comment was in response to my question as to whether there were any other siblings, surely?

Cisco

Cisco Report 5 May 2014 14:36

Yes - sorry. Jean had one brother, but no other siblings.

I'll hopefully be in touch soon - with some news.

Cheers, Joyce

After a good search through the birth records, I reckon the best match is for the following:
Jean C Ramsey - b 4th qtr 1944 - Dewsbury - Mothers maiden name FROST
David Ramsey - b 3rd qtr 1951 - Spen Valley - Mothers maiden name FROST

The most likely marriage of Jean in 1969 to Michael Howard led to a nil result - not the right person. There are qu,te a few David Ramseys listed.

I'd appreciate any suggestions of where I might go from here.

Many thanks.

It is highly likely that David had a sister Linda, born in Spen Valley in 1948 - but you said that Jean had only a brother. So unless you can find a death for Linda, it is the wrong family.

Could Jean have been her middle name?

When were you last in contact, and presumably she was not married then?

Cisco

Cisco Report 8 May 2014 13:40

Hello Patchem

I was last in contact with Jean about 1960 when she was working as a hairdresser in Wimbledon. She wasn't married then.

I think you're right about David and Linda being siblings. I found that Linda married in 1968 - then again in 1975. I am sure that 'my' Jean had just the one sibling, a younger brother.

I suppose Jean could have been her middle name, but I doubt this. I feel sure I would have known.

I've checked all the Ramsey male births in Surrey NE from 1952-1956 - and then done a check on all Ramsey female births looking for matching mother maiden-names. Nothing has sprung to light.
(the area in which Jean lived would have come under the Surrey NE area for births).

Of course, there's no reason to suppose both were born in Surrey NE, but Im pretty sure the brother was.

Now I'm really stumped.

Can I ask what YOU would do if you were me???

Many thanks,

Cheers, Joyce

I've just completed, through this website, a search of all the female Ramsey births in 1944 with a middle name beginning with J. I've checked if there were any male Ramsey births with the same mother's maiden name - to no avail.

I'll repeat the exercise with the different spelling (Ramsay), although I'm pretty sure it's Ramsey. Given that these websites are typed-in by us humans, I realise that mistakes are possible.

Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

A couple of pointers have just emerged:

1 - the surname is definitely Ramsey with an 'e'. I've just found an old photograph on which she's written her name on the reverse.

2 - I've just learnt that it is highly likely she emigrated with her family to New Zealand. I envisage that this would have been somewhere between 1960-1969. I've looked on the passenger lists on this website, but cannot find a family with this surname and children's ages.

Any chance that David and Jean had different mothers?

Can you remember the parents' names, just in case there is an obvious wedding?

Cisco

Cisco Report 9 May 2014 18:56

I don't know if Jean and her brother had different mothers. Anything's possible I suppose!

No, I can't remember her parents' names.

Tis a mystery.

A thought -

If Jean was 21 in 1965 its likely she appeared on the Electors Lists for Springfield Road, Wimbledon.

A shame this website doesn't have them!

Does any kind reader of this 'Ramsey Tale' have access to such information and, if so, would they be prepared to look this up?

Many thanks, Joyce
