Emma Platt Wilson was bn 1864 -Boston.

You are welcome,,,,,,but its looking as Emma P Wilson maybe the link to Florence.

The marriage details for Emma and James are at Lincoln Archives or maybe the church at Boston still has the register to find Emmas father Mr Wilson....pieces could fall in place.

have you an age for Florence.?

Have you looked for a Will that the Mayor may have made,,,,,,,or the obituary or even the Will for James Elsom in 1925 to see who attended his funeral.....?these could unearth something.

(Boston municipal building/town hall will have robed photos of all past Mayors,,,,,,,possibly they line the walls of the Mayors Parlour?)

BonBon29

BonBon29 Report 29 Nov 2014 10:06

No.....neither related to the Mayor.
James and Emma raised their niece, Martha ( Marcie ) as their own and adopted Fred
Fred died aged 43

Kay????

Kay???? Report 29 Nov 2014 09:33

Fred is with James and Emma in 1901&1911.

1911,they had been married 24 years with one child born and still alive ? Fred is down as a son,hes aged 0 !! they are in their 40s ,,,,,

1901/1911,shows no other children,only a neice and Fred ,?

Was Emma or James related to the Mayor?

You wrote:-

Elsom was the surname of adoptive parents.

Then you say they were called Thurlby

As already clearly shown, Elsom was his second forename

Jan.....that is very interesting. Many thanks.....Possibility regarding Florence Wilson marrying Charles!! I will look into that one as i thought it unusual that the adoption papers only state James Thurlby as adopting him.......

It's pretty confusing. Her mother Mahala is on 1851census as a Machin, unmarried, assuming I have the right Emma in 1881.
You will have to excuse me, but I am using my new tablet and have no idea how to copy &paste!!
There is a marriage for a Charles Machin to a Florence Wilson1906, but that is a stretch isn't it.
Have you considered getting the birth cert for Emma Platt Wilson?

ADDED back on the PC! I am guessing this is Emma, I get it now. There is no way of trying to prove/disprove a family link to Florence without a birth cert, and even then it would be tricky.

Yes Jan, that's right. They were his adoptive parents. I am aware she was a Wilson too but can find no evidence to link Florence and Emma.
When Emma was young her mother died and she was taken in by someone called Machin....i have also traced her as Emma Machin. She always told my Mother she was called Emma Machin, it was only on finding her marriage certificate that i became
aware she was born Platt Wilson.

Were his parents James Thurlby and Emma? If so, James married Emma Wilson in 1886. If this is them, likely to be related to Florence??

Elsom was the child's given second name when his birth was registered, as per the info posted on this thread.

BonBon29 Report 28 Nov 2014 14:57

Elsom was the surname of adoptive parents.
It is a known fact within our family about his biological father and
he looked out for him during his life, our family
believe he knew he was his Father.
Thank you for the interest and information Jacqueline
