All is clearer now. Sorry - I should digest your replies more carefully.
Thank you Sylvia for bring this to my attention.

And thank you Jax. Is your offer still on to send the tree owners on Ancestry a message? Reading through these postings, I ve now taken in your kind offer of the 19th April. So I'll send you a private message. Many thanks for this.

To add to what Sylvia has just said Cissy

You can get a free trial for 14 days on both Ancestry.co.uk or on http://www.findmypast.co.uk/

If I were you I would do this on Ancestry because they have trees and Find my past does not as yet.

Otherwise phone a friend and ask them to look into the trees or take up Jax's offer, where she will message the people with the tree and ask them about who you are looking for.

Simples..

Jax and the other helpers on here are NOT using GR records.

Most of the helpers on this site use records found elsewhere.

Jax is talking about trees on Ancestry ............

www.ancestry.co.uk

Ancestry is a subscription site, and that is why she was offering to send a message to the tree owner(s) on your behalf

On the other hand, you or your friend might want to take out your own subscription to Ancestry.

Another site that you want to consider subscribing to is FindMyPast.

jax Report 7 May 2015 15:45

Is there any mention from me that these people have a tree on this site?

Would I offer to send a message to someone on GR when you are quite capable of doing it yourself?

Cisco

Cisco Report 7 May 2015 11:31

Hi Jax- sorry, I think we must be on crossed wires.
I've looked for Cecilia Griffiths and Horace Smith on GR members trees and can find no Karen nor the other members you mention.

Cissy

jax Report 6 May 2015 22:10

Are you talking about Ancestry?

There is one called Karen who seems to be active

Another called Jamieanne... Not used in over a year

And another called timboon something or other... Who again has not used the site in over a year.... But may of course still have the same email address

I don't know why you just don't try sending messages to the three people who have this family in their tree on ancestry

Hello - in Jax's last message on 22 March, she listed Notice of death of Cecilia Ann Smith in the Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper.
It states in the Notice that Cecilia was the mother in law of Brian and Graeme, suggesting that one of her daughters married one of these men.
Again, according to the Notice, Cecilia had 4 daughters - Anita, Jennifer, Deborah and Jacqueline.

I am wondering whether anyone could look up a possible marriage in Australia for each of these daughters to a Graeme or a Brian. At least I might get an easier surname to search for.

This may be an even bigger ask than I can imagine, for I know absolutely nothing about Australian records.

Thank you all once again for your help.

Many thanks Jax and Jacqueline. I've managed to actually SPEAK to one of John Steele's daughters and she remembers Peggy well. Alas, Peggy is no longer with us - she died a few years ago.
Well at least I can now stop looking down the Steele route.

Now back to the drawing board. I haven't heard any results from my letters to the Melbourne, Australia papers asking for any inf on Cecilia and Horace Smith's family.
Australia seems very difficult to delve into any records. Am I right? And with a name like Smith I feel I have vey little chance.
Can I ask where you might start with a name like Smith in Australia?

Thank you once again for your interest.

Hi Jax-thank you so much once again. As you'll see from my message above (19 April) I'm searching forCecilia ann Griffiths.
I know that she lived t the Ryecroft Street, Gloucester address I'm 1943/44 and I know that theSteele family also lived there, including Peggy.

So I hoping Peggy will have inf about where Cecilia was born - her rough age - and where she went after Ryecroft St. A huge wish I know

I'll keep you posted

Cheers, Cissy

So who was Peggy? Just someone who may have lived in the same house more than 70 years ago? Would she remember that far back?

Who have these people got in their tree that you have sent messages to?
