The name on the Date of Arrival : May 11th, 1899 on Ancestry's manifest has the name crossed through. That would normally mean he didn't sail. However, if he is on the Ellis Island site, perhaps something else happened to him?

Although there are a a number of Charles Bloombergs on various US census, most of them say born Russia or a Scandinavian country.

Hello everyone. Recovering from family visit which was good. A correspondent on Rootschat found a Charles Bloomberg boot maker, aged 21 who boarded the Indiana at Liverpool, bound for Philadelphia on 6 June 1894. He suggested that Charles is a good exchange for Ezekiel, and the dates are good, plus his elder brother was a boot riveter. Can anyone find any trace of him please? Maureen

well given that they were Jewish and prone to a bit of name-changing ... :-)

I would not think 'Galla' (an uncommon but not rare Jewish name) and 'Gladys' to be incompatible

and as for Goldenberg (the marriage record does say Goldenbrg in the original) and Walker ... I'm afraid I haven't followed that bit at all, even the marriage to Matthews, but is her background known?

'Our' Jack/Jacob Matthews mother is supposed to be a Gladys Ellen Walker b London about 1888. Could she be another name-changer or has it all gone terribly wrong?

Detective wonders what I think of the most recent Jack Matthews figuring, and I think she's got it figured!

Two very similar Jack Matthews, and the one in Florida with wife Ann has been ruled out as the wrong one. The other one looks like the right one. I'm not sure what the thing about place of death is, but other than that it looks all sorted.

in another 2 years the birth record in Manitoba will become available! (100 year rule)

I'm still confused!

Should have added the collection title for the first one posted. It was from the Florida death index. his death was registered there, but benefits paid to an address in Alabama, . That's what the holiday assumption was based on. ;-)

Actually, I did find another online reference giving a more precise Florida location. Will add that to this post when I'm on the PC.
