Find Living Relatives

I may have found Barry. Violet gave me the first name of his son, which is fairly unusual, I think I found him on Facebook in the right location in NZ and saw that he is "friends" with a Barry Harrington of Nelson NZ! So I've messaged that Barry Harrington to see if he is the one I am looking for. Thanks again for all your help so far.

Can I just say how grateful I am for all the help I've been given here, I had no idea that there were people ready and willing to assist with research, I thought GR was simply a contact site to help people connect with each other.

Had I known, I would have kept up my membership years ago.

The success I've had so far in such a short time has been incredible. I now have information that I've never had about my birth family.

It is the right Barry. Son of Cyril . He does live in Nelson. Cy did marry a much younger girl . She was nineteen and he was 38 I think . I am Violet who was with Cyril 21 years . He died at age 87 March 2000.
What would be your connection with Barry? He is the son of Josephine Olley and was told by her brother when Barry was sixteen that she died of an overdose and I would like to find if that is true.
Cy took Barry and Kim away from her and went to NZ. Where he lived the rest of his life. Contct ne [email protected]

Violet - its best to tell Odette these facts privately, not post them on the boards. You aren't actually 'talking' to her here, rather you are 'talking' to people who were trying to find family contact details for her.
And please remove your email address from future posts. If anyone needs to contact you privately, they can send a message via the Genes message board system by clicking on your name.

The only person who is related to Cy or his family is Odette. No one else who has posted has any connection. Other than Odette, we have no wish to contact Barry.
If Odette does, then you've probably already told her how to do so.

Try to think that the boards are like a letter to a newspaper - anyone can pick it up and read the print, even people who have no relation to the letter writer.

Barry’s mother was Josephine G A nee Olley. If he was told he’d died when he was about 16, we need to look for a death c1971.

Jospehine G A Olley was born in 1936.

There are no deaths registered in England and Wales for a Josephine G A born about 1936 with any surname around 1971.
If what Barry had been told is true, then either she had partnered/married someone else and died under that name, or the informant didn’t know her middle names. Do you have any idea if she moved abroad or even to Scotland or Ireland? They have different registration indexes to England and Wales

maybe it would be best to just report Violet's messages so they don't appear in the thread ... I think Violet may not be quite up on the technology and perhaps not seeing your advice Det. (I think she is approaching 90!)

You’re probably right JoonieCloonie, but if all her posts containing an email address were Reported, it would be difficult for future researchers to make contact.

You have given your email address, and private information about other people. This is very unwise.

You need to delete these messages.

For each one of them, please click DELETE and then confirm that you want to delete it.

The message that started this discussion is from ODETTE, and you and she are in contact by email already. The information you are posting, she already knows it, because you have told her privately.

Nobody else here is related to you or Odette. We are just friendly helpers who like to help people find their families.

You have put so much personal information in your messages that you do need to delete them.

And then send Odette a message by email - not here! - to stay in touch with her.

I'd sent a message to Odette hoping she could explain the situation to Violet.

Violet does have a genuine query about Barry's mother. If Odette hasn't made any progress, we might be able to help out there. Let's see if Odette has any news yet. It might be possible to trace Josephine's siblings or their families who may know something.

Odette is going to try and help Violet find out what happened to Josephine. If she hits a brick wall, she'll ask on Violet's behalf. :-)
