I think it much more likely that the details Rose has posted are worth looking at, buying the death cert for this lady would at least tell you where she died, the informant and cause of death, which might confirm it's the right one.

Deaths Jun 1962 (>99%)
THOMAS Joan V 40 Neath 8b 449

Rambling Report 26 Apr 2017 21:07

There is also this lady, mentioned by Malyon

Name: Sylvia V Thomas
Birth Date: abt 1936
Date of Registration: Sep 1965
Age at Death: 29
Registration district: Neath
Inferred County: Glamorganshire
Volume: 8b
Page: 402

she appears from the 1939 register to be the one who married in 1962

Marriages Jun 1962 (>99%)

JOHNSTONE Sylvia V Thomas Neath 8b 683
THOMAS Arthur J JOHNSTONE Neath 8b 683

Rambling Report 26 Apr 2017 21:21

IF that is his marriage to Sylvia, there is another marriage for an Arthur J the year after her death which is on freebmd, I won't put the name as there is no death record and given her age she may well be alive, there is a son to that marriage 1967.

Add. Arthur J Thomas was on the electoral roll to 2002/3 with this wife and son in Neath, wife and son are listed on more recent electoral rolls, Arthur is not.that would suggest he has died.

Son looks to have married 2002.

we have just sent for the death cert for Joan v Thomas.
we will see what that reveals.
the person we spoke with again tonight(owners of morgan road) said his wife was called Valerie no mention of another first name ?

but would they know if they only bought the house from them? for instance my relative is known only by her middle name to everyone, even her mother :-)

lynette susan Report 26 Apr 2017 23:34

think only way forward is try trace daughter Jacqueline now maybe.

Rambling Report 26 Apr 2017 23:52

I wouldn't say so no, not until you have something definite to go on as regards having the right parents for the right child. the electoral rolls and the possible marriages and deaths need to be checked first I think to either confirm or eliminate them.

If it is the birth of the Jacqueline in the 40s she will be in her 70s now, her father was unfaithful to her mother and within a short amount of time after her mother's death was trying to remarry and then as far as we can tell did so, at least once.

I would think very carefully before making any approach to her, even assuming you can find her. I'm sorry if that sounds discouraging, but proceed with caution and only when you have some definite facts to go on.

Lynette, a( and for ref other helpers) message sent on here re 'possible' recent eroll entries, ( see 'messages' at top of page and click on envelope)

I would check all other avenues mentioned, ie Neath electoral rolls for the period if possible, and purchase the marriages and deaths certs mentioned on this thread to confirm or eliminate.

Hi
We now have the death cert for Joan v Thomas.
Looks like rose was correct it is the one. Joan Valerie Thomas died may 1962
She must of gone by her middle name
it looks then she live a further 7 months from when Arthur was seen in Neath hospital.
this must been the start of his wife's decline nov 1961.
the address we had that they had moved to in 1961 stacks up as that is stated on the death cert. holly road Neath.
its hard to read but it looks like Arthur James Thomas ( steel worker/bricklayer) was present at her death ( husband) (my wife's farther)(steel worker) and that's correct.
in the first box on the cert on the left it also says 68 Walters road Neath ? that was Joan/Valerie's family home.
great news this gives us something to go on.
all the best
Steve & Lynette .

That's a really good start then :-)

So it would seem to suggest that the birth for Jacqueline mentioned earlier by Rose is likely to be the right one. Its the only one showing in that name for Neath that I can see, and marrying 1965.

I've sent Lynette the photo attached to a tree on Ancestry (hopefully the link will work for those that have ancestry). I don't have much time but believe it is connected:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/6629013/person/430000419960/facts

The photo is attached to Glenn Jones (who was possibly David Glenn Jones?- brother of Joan Valerie- parents are listed as Thomas Jones and Margaret Jane Hopkins)

The interesting part of the photo is the description:

"Maud, Violet, Mag, Glen, Valerie, Gordon, Arthur 001

Gordon's wedding - back left Maud, then Violet and VALERIE.
Front left Margaret then Glenn and Gordon.
ARTHUR, VALERIE'S HUSBAND is behind the bride."

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 24 May 2017 11:02

Not a stepson- Shaun was born approximately a year after his parent's marriage. He's listed on the electoral register as living with his mother until at least 2009.
EDIT- he's still living at the same address in 2017

His mother (initial GD Thomas) is listed at the address until 2012 (she passed away Feb 2012- obituary online)

His father Arthur James is listed at the address until 2002/ 2003
