Sheila's marriage certificate when she married your father. 1966 in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Look for the references on this site if you have a full sub, or the free site https://www.freebmd.org.uk/search

Use the exact information as shown on the transcription and order from https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ at a cost of £9.25.
If you haven't used the GRO before, you'll have to create an account.
Once you get to the order page, look for the sentence asking if you know the GRO reference. Tick 'Yes' then carry on from there.

The idea is to work back to find Sheila's birth reg then the names of possible siblings. If we can trace them, they may have knowledge of her alternative surname and where she (and Deborah) might be.
If your father is willing to talk to you about her, he may be able to give you some details about her relatives. He should know when she was born, and possibly where. Try broaching it with him first.

If someone has been adopted, their names are changed. The new certificate is not, as far as I'm aware, in the public domain. You won't be able to use her revised BC to find out what it was changed to.

The 1967 birth index shows an alteration has taken place to the original birth name.that could either mean full total name change or just surname.

I found Deborah birth certificate the name and where she was born is right but the numbers next to it have been a line put through it and different numbers been put in anyone no what that means plz

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 21 Jan 2017 08:28

The numbers have been crossed out on Deborah's original birth registration because her name has been changed. The new ones refer to another entry in the adoption register which we can't access.

We'll have another look at the ER where Wayne is listed, although initially research suggested that Brunt was Deborah's married name, not her maiden one. At that time, it hadn't been mentioned that Deborah might have been adopted. Perhaps we should back track further to see if Harding is linked somewhere.

Contact the tree owner to ask how they are related. They may have inside knowledge, or they may have just made an incorrect assumption.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 21 Jan 2017 10:49

The 2013 ER address is still current as of last autumn when the ER was compiled.

Wayne's age range is given as 45-46. He married Deborah in 1990. Her age range is the same.
Their 2 children listed on the ER were born 1992 & 1998.
There is a potential birth for Deborah, using the name on the marriage and which is the mmn for her children, in 1968.

By all means write to them, but you'll probably find that they aren't related to your Deborah Brunt or her mother Sheila nee Harding

Sending facebook link for the daughter 'L' by PM.

Adoption records are totally confidential - thank goodness!

Have you added yourself to the National Adoption Conrtact Register?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 16 Mar 2021 14:16

Put yourself on the contact register.

If Deborah knows she was adopted, and has any interest in finding birth relatives, she may have done the same.

Hi Nessy

If I’m understanding your messages correctly.......you know the names of both her adopted parents and also Deborah’s adopted name?

I presume you also know the area they live too, you could search electoral rolls for the family...

Stay safe

There are electoral rolls you can search on this site.

Sheila and her husband are listed until 2019.
