Electoral Registers don't give people's ages, unfortunately.

I hope you're feeling better, Paulette.

Paulette Report 31 Mar 2018 21:54

I had my DNA done but didn’t help me find my Auntie, I have search record and can find no death record for my Auntie Ruth Cunningham/Freason/Griffiths Nee Williams.
I had a operation two weeks ago and found I had a genetic problems which could have turn out very different. I am wondering if I can find out from Electoral Register of 1965 at 12a Stewart Ave a person age as my Auntie was living with a Bert Griffiths but not married to him.

AustinQ
Spoke to the lady of the Russell tree she is related to Winifred Cunningham who bor 1907 she is Williams Sister the Susan Plukett was an error and she going to remove it. She told me the name of William wife as Ruth Williams the Russell family have about four tree on and Ruth is mention. They told me William had gone to USA from Plymouth in 1939 and died in New York 1966. I will do some searching again. It's very hard but I will keep going I am putting my email together for Berkshire for information on Ruth. Thank so much for all your help.

AustinQ Report 20 Sep 2017 06:59

According to a tree on Ancestry that William Cunningham married Susan Plunkett in 1931 New York. Their son William was born in 1937.

As your William married Ruth in England in 1933 it is very unlikely to be your William.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 19 Sep 2017 23:14

One of the trees says he married Susan Plunkett.

There's a 1940 US census with a William and Susan , both born NI, with children Rosemary and William T, both born NY.

He's a taxi driver.

But no proof he's the right William.

ArgyllGran Report 19 Sep 2017 22:43

Paulette, I've had a look at the Russell tree. It doesn't say anything about William's death, or about going to USA.

Are you sure that's where you found the information?

EDIT:
Actually, when I add the supposed date of death to the search criteria, it does say that about USA in the list of results. But when I open the tree, that info isn't there

Paulette Report 18 Sep 2017 18:12

AustinQ it on a tree on Ansetry it wont let me copy it but it has James Cunningham and Catherine Magoolahan that's William Cunningham parents and his Sister Winifred Cunningham born 1907. It says William left Plymouth and died in New York 1/2/1966 so maybe they have got it wrong. I went on to Ansetry type in William Cunningham it came up with the Russell family tree.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 18 Sep 2017 14:21

Paulette, I'm not seeing that information. Where is the tree you can see this information on?

There is a William Cunningham born 1904 travelling to New York from Southampton in 1939- but he man is a surveyor, so seems unlikely he is your William.

State New York
First name(s) William
Last name Cunningham
Gender Male
Age 35
Birth year 1904
Occupation SURVEYOR
Departure year 1939
Departure day 4
Departure month 1
Departure port Southampton
Destination port New York
Destination NEW YORK
Country United States
Destination country United States
Ship name Paris

AustinQ found a death for William Cunningham in 1966 in New York I found a William Cunningham leaving Plymouth in 1939 for New York found on a family tree sure it's right and correct William Cunningham parents and my Auntie Ruth Williams.

No worries Paulette- we all have difficulties at times and Ruth is proving very hard to trace!

Just let us know before you order any certificates or Wills as we could save you the expense if we find it's not the right person.

Oh, and let us know if you hear back from the Berkshire Record Office.

I don't think Bertram James Griffiths that died in 1969 is the Bert that was living in Stewart Street. - But even if they were the same, I don't think that the Ruth living with him is your Ruth.
--------------------------------

If you e-mail the Berkshire Record Office you could write something like this:

I am trying to find out what happened to my mother's sister and was hoping you could help.

My mother's sister was Ruth Williams born in 1912 Devonport.

She married William Cunningham in 1933, but the marriage broke down.

She married again in 1941 Wantage to Ernest S Frearson.

I think her marriage to Ernest was a bigamous marriage and have found an article (Manchester Evening News - Monday 15 March 1943) that states a Ruth Cunningham aged 30 of Foxhill Road, Reading was sentenced to three months for bigamy Oxford Assizes.

I don't know what happened to her after this. I understand there were no electoral registers taken during the war, but if you hold the records would it be possible to look to see if a Ruth Cunningham or Frearson was still living in Foxhill Road on the electoral register after the war, and who she was living with? This could help me to trace what happened to her.

The 1939 register suggests that she later went by the name Griffiths but I cannot find any marriages that fit.

Also do you know if or where I could get any further information on the court case in 1943?

------------------------------

I know it's frustrating Paulette, and I'm sorry if we haven't made everything clear.

AustinQ my brain is pickled, so is the Bert living in at 12a Stewart Street a different Bertram James. I rang Berkshire again got a different lady she gave me aemail address and told me to put in writing what I want but not sure what to ask for, I wondered if I would be better to go to Berkshire. I don't know what name to look for Cunningham or Griffiths. I sat and looked through 39000 marriages and death just use the name Ruth I am at a loss at the moment. My brain disorder makes me confused at time so if I seem not to have got it right sorry I keep got back and reading the information people give to me and everyone has been amazing helping me.
The great Nephew confirmed it was my Aunt that married his great Uncle so with out all your help I would never have found that.

AustinQ Report 15 Sep 2017 11:10

Paulette- I'm a bit confused.

I posted: 16 Aug 2017 14:28

"EDIT: Possibly not our Ruth- there is a Bert Griffiths marriage to Ruth Gllagher in 1950 Northumberland, and a birth of a possible child to this marriage in Middlesex.

1951- 1964 electoral registers- Ruth Griffiths living 534 Staines Road, Spelthorne with Bert Griffiths

1965 electoral registers- Ruth Griffiths living at 12a Stewart Avenue with Bert Griffiths"

I don't see a Ruth living with a Bertram James Griffiths, and I doubt that the Ruth with Bert Griffiths on the electoral register is correct for your Ruth.
---------------------------------------

The Will for Ruth Cunningham 2005 refers to this death, giving her birth year as 1914- :

First name(s) RUTH
Last name CUNNINGHAM
Gender Female
Birth day 29th August 1914
Death quarter 2
Death year 2005
District Milton Keynes
District number 3261C
Register number C32B
Entry number 175
Date of registration mm/yy 0605
County Buckinghamshire

Good luck, Paulette!

However, I've said it before -

we don't know if Bertram James Griffith was the Bert with whom Ruth was living.
It was only a wild guess, and he might be someone completely different.

Paulette Report 14 Sep 2017 21:12

I have order up the will for a Bertram James Griffiths death in 1968 in Guildford who my Auntie was living with to see if it shows any information. I found a will of a Ruth Cunningham in Oxford one of the place she has lived in 2005.

I had a lovely message from the great Nephew of Ernest S Freason he had no children and married my Auntie Ruth Cunningham they had no children sadly the marriage did not work out she was his house keep. I wil ask the question if she know what happened to my Auntie. She is a very nice lady I found on a website for the Frearson family. So still not found any children connected to Ruth.I did ring the Berkshire office not very helpful. I don't know where to go next. At least the Frearson was write so thank for thank. I will ring Ireland next week to see if Ruth had a child in Ireland. I have come so far I can not give up.
