Don't know if relevant - or just a coincidence -

but this Richard Moffatt is with a Gertrude Moffatt:

Richard Moffatt
in the Canada, Voters Lists, 1935-1980
Name: Richard Moffatt
Occupation: Retired
Year: 1972
Location: York, Ontario, Canada
Electoral District: York East

ArgyllGran Report 9 Nov 2018 15:11

If that tree is accurate, then in 1963 Richard was self-employed, and living with Mrs Jeannette Moffatt.

In 1965 his occupation is given as "office supplies", and he's with Mrs Jeannette Moffatt.
There's also a Joseph Murray, clerk, at the same address - but not necessarily any relation.

Michelle will probably have this detail but, the accident was reported in Milngavie and Bearsden Herald 26 March 1955.
The family lived at 617, Maryhill Road and were all travelling in a motorcylce with sidecar to visit family in Hilton Road, Milngavie when the cycle skidded and hit a tram stop.

William was killed instantly.
His wife, 3yr old Wilma and a 4 yr old neice named Margaret McGeachan were all in the sidecar and were all slightly injured.
Michelle's grandmother was discharged the same day but both children ( her mother and her mother's cousin) were detained at the Sick Children's Hospital.

( I have checked, 4yr old Margaret was from the maternal family, not the Moffatt line)

Don't know if this would help but Gertrude's maternal aunt only died in 1985. If she had any children they may still be alive and would maybe know where they cousin Gertrude went?

The difficulty is that by the 1960s folk emigrated by air so not leaving us a paper trail.

Looking to see if any of the family went abroad and came on this.
Just posting it as it gives an address for Wilma's great grandparents.

ArgyllGran Report 11 Oct 2018 16:39

I wonder if perhaps they went to Australia/NZ to be near their grand-daughter Wilma, whose family emigrated in 1960, per Michelle's opening post.

Although,if that were the case, they must have died when Wilma was very young, as Wilma doesn't know anything about her father or his family.

Looking at the weather here in Glasgow today, I'm wishing I had retired to somewhere sunny :-(

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 11 Oct 2018 16:30

Yes, I agree that they must have emigrated - maybe retired to somewhere sunny!

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 11 Oct 2018 16:23

I am still thinking that perhaps they emigrated otherwise I'm sure we would have found Gertrude's death.

I know Michelle is looking for living relatives for her Mum but I was hoping that the quickest route to that would have been the informant's details on her Mum's grandparents death registrations.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 11 Oct 2018 16:18

There are several records of Richard going back and forwards between Glasgow and New York on board the "Tuscania"., 1923-31.

I won't post them, as probably not really relevant to Michelle's query.

No wonder I couldn't find Gertrude's mother in 1901. Her surname Mistranscribed on FMP.
