They can, I sent a message to someone trying to find an Irish connection , it sat there unopened for 2 weeks. then the person deleted it, They could have just said no not my family. Very rude..

Jilly Report 3 Dec 2018 22:25

They've deleted my sent messages, didn't know they did that, all the others are still there going back years.

Jilly

Jilly Report 3 Dec 2018 22:16

Yes, definitely 1933.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 3 Dec 2018 16:52

We have found 2 matches, but unless the owners of the trees open and read their messages, it all stops. If they only did that, our search would be over, but what can you do?

Jilly

Has she transferred her Ancestry DNA Raw Data to any of the other Free sites to widen her chances of finding a match?

The following accept transfers from Ancestry
FTDNA -Free to upload (there is a one-off charge to use the browser)but you can search for matches without it!
GEDMATCH-Free
My Heritage-Free to upload (they wil alsol be making a charge to use their browser from 1st Dec)

Yes, those as well, she has tried all avenues she can think of and is reaching out to anyone that may be able to offer something more. She has put an ad in the local paper in Walsall recently too.
Wish i could devote more time to help, but I work 7 days a week so it's difficult.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’d read it that she’d approached the TV company who produced ‘Long Lost Families’ , & others of the same genre.

Jilly

Jilly Report 28 Nov 2018 22:56

That's what I said, she has done the DNA with ancestry.

Not the tv programmes, but the diy variety.

FMP is showing an advert on this page.
Ancestry has its own version
23andme - there’s loads out there!

You then get matched with people who have a similar dna result in common. From that, you try & trace who you have in common which could lead to a living relative on the Collins line.

Jilly Report 28 Nov 2018 12:07

Yes, done the DNA, approached Long, Lost Families and other agencies like that, but they need to know too much info which she doesn't have.
Her mother refuses to give her any info, that's why they fell out and are no longer in contact.
Brian has never been on the scene, so no one knows about him, only her mother and she's not talking. And all of her siblings are in their 80's and 90's now.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Nov 2018 10:39

Has his daughter thought of going down the DNA route?
Although some matches might be from her known maternal side, some could be from the paternal. It might make it easier to work out which Brian/Bryan is related.

Is her mother, or mother’s siblings, still around? Could they give some other clues about Brian? Things such as any siblings he may have had, or the street where they lived? Viewing historical ER and looking for any Collins who lived there during the period they were together. Historical ER could be held at the Council House Library. As it’s original home seems to be closed for renovation, some items are probably in storage.

I assume this is some heredity issue? Brian had sisters. You could try tracing them.

And obviously I wouldn't come straight out with details of his first born, but if he has children they need to know some info about their health. We don't know, he may have told his family about his daughter.
ErikaH, if you look back at the other messages you will see I have looked at FreeBMD.
So far, you have all been great helping me, thank you.
I am passing on these details to his daughter and she is very grateful. She has been searching for the last 4 years and this is more than she could find herself.

I think the poster should look at freebmd herself

We should be very careful about involvement in something like this

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Nov 2018 18:15

Malyon, you need to look at the actual image. Brian J Collins, entered immediately above him, was born in [a different reg District.] same quarter, same year.
( sorry, either my internet connection is messing about or Freebmd keeps timing out)
