I am trying to trace any one who has a connection to this family.
Margaret was born in Leith, Edinburgh, daughter of George Donaldson 1894-1966 and Elizabeth Lambert Donaldson.

ErikaH Report 12 Feb 2019 20:48

To find connections on here look for the names in search all member trees

Do you know anything about her apart from her birth date?

ArgyllGran Report 12 Feb 2019 22:42

What is it you want to know about Margaret?
Are you interested in ancestors or descendants?

What do you know already?

Her birth (for our reference):

685/10 581
Leith North

Do you know if she survived into adulthood and married?

There's a possible marriage of a Margaret M L Donaldson in Marylebone reg district in 1951, to a William D Deane.

Of course, I don't know what that lady's middle names are.

ArgyllGran Report 12 Feb 2019 22:48

??? Following on from that marriage:

Jill Report 13 Feb 2019 12:30

Thank you,
Her D.O.B was10/09/1923
Name was Margaret Mary Lambert Donaldson
I would like to find any living family and also her ancesters. It is possible that the family changed their name in the 1900s from McCormick to Donaldson. They would be living around the Epworth/Crowle,Lincolnshire,South Yorks border, at that time.

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2019 12:42

When you say "the family changed their name in the 1900's", do you mean that George's parents or grandparents changed their name before George's marriage in 1921? Somewhere between 1900 and 1921 ??

His marriage for our reference:

685/4 892
St Giles

Without knowing George's age, and his parents' names, it's hard to find the family in censuses - the most recent available being 1911.

If you spend a few credits (6) on ScotlandsPeople, to see the marriage cert, you'd find out his parents' names, and his age.

Jill Report 13 Feb 2019 13:29

George's father we believe was born Patrick J McCormick about 1856? but they changed there name between the 1901-1911 census, while at Crowle/Epworth, Lincs.( family groups in both places with same birthdates) changed , for work or religious reasons.
George married twice but this first marraige produced Margaret,Mary Lambert Donaldson.George is buried RC Windsor.
The most info we have is from George's war records (both wars),his brother, James William Donaldson 1889-1943 (my Grandfather) died in hospital in Nottingham with the alias on his records as a McCormick.
He is buried there in a paupers grave because a family feud wanted to bury him as a McCormick but his wife (Mable Matthews) had only ever known him as a Donaldson! and objected.

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2019 14:27

You know quite a lot about the family after all.

What was George's mother's name?
When was George born?

I don't see Patrick in Crowle, or anywhere in Lincs , in 1901 or 1911, as either McCormick or Donaldson.

Can't see James William on censuses, either
Please can you copy/paste the census records for us to see?

Where was James born?
I don't see his birth in Lincolnshire 1888-90, under either surname.

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2019 15:07

Aha! Can this be James in 1911? But with wife (???) Annie Elizabeth? did James marry twice?
EDIT: But the image says both Annie and James are single. Confusing, to say the least.

Jill Report 13 Feb 2019 20:38

I have just been going through my old paper records and have found the McCormick family in Thorne, Nr Hatfield

Father Patrick(James) McCormick b Ireland
who married Rosina/Rose Ellen McNab (British subject)
Rose 1883 -died aged 5yrs
Florrie 1884 m H Mourby
Annie Elizabeth 1885 Emg to Canada m Chambers
Polly 1886 died?
James William 1887, (Grandfather) m Mable Matthews
Mary Ellen 1889
All down as born at Haylin, Thorne,Hatfield on the 1891 CENSUS
Daisy 1892
George 1894( Great uncle)m Elizabeth Lambert

1901 Census most of them were down as born at Epworth under the name of Donaldson.
Rose died in 1907 and is buried at Epworth, James was with her at death as a Donaldson and her husband John Donaldson was away at sea??
I have not been able to find a marraige to a John Donaldson between 1894 -1901
Thank you so much for help

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2019 21:14

So James in 1911 was Henry Mourby's brother-in-law, because he was Florrie's half-brother?

And Annie Elizabeth was James's half-sister. I see - the 1911 census now makes sense.

Florrie's maiden surname was Dawson, going by Sarah's birth record, as well as Florrie's marriage ???

Re John Donaldson (a new name in the mix) -
presumably Rose couldn't marry him as she was still married to Patrick.

ArgyllGran Report 14 Feb 2019 11:15

For our reference:

Rose Mc Cormick
in the 1891 England Census

I don't see Florrie in 1891.
And Polly? Where have you found her?

Have just noticed Polly on the 1901 census posted by RG.

Is that a different family then that I have posted for 1901?

ArgyllGran Report 14 Feb 2019 11:35

Re your last post, Jill -

you say young Rose was born 1883 and died aged 5 years.

But she's on the 1891 census, aged 8. Or is that a different Rose?

rootgatherer Report 14 Feb 2019 18:35

Is this Rose's death?

Deaths Jun 1907 (>99%)
DONALDSON Rose 42 Thorne 9c 509

Can you post the 1901 census with them listed as Donaldson please as I'm not seeing it.

Have you found birth records for any of the other children, Jill?
Or are you just going by the approximate years of birth shown on censuses?

Where and when did Patrick James marry Rosina/Rose?
