Roy, just a quick question, if someone is given a Chelsea number does that class them as a Chelsea Pensioner?

The term Chelsea Pensioner was used for all pensions awarded by the army upto 1955, because the Royal hospital Chelsea was the administrator of pensions for the army untill then,

So what you have is pensioners living at the royal hosptial chelsea (Known as an in-pensioners) and those who lived elswhere (Known as out-pensioners.)

I noticed that George Woods as a record, on it it says Chelsea no. And then a number. I wondered if any more info could be gleamed from that?

Not sure but it looks like he was considered for being an in-pensioner and probably had to go throught their medical assessment,

Just thinking out aloud. If I'm correct TB can lie dormant for years?? I'm wondering if his mother died of it?? Maybe George could have been born with it and the cold and dampness of the trenches bought it on?? Or even contracted it from working in the mills.

Good to know that it obviously didn't affect him later in life as Mick was unaware of any illness.

If he was married, he wouldn't be eligible to be an in-pensioner. Haven't looked at his records but I assume the paperwork is about the decision whether to award an out-pension or not.

TB is bacterial infection and doesn't lay dormant you catch it from others around you and it's not passed on through the gene pool
