My Grandfather was an Adjutant with the RAF
He was called Albert Round born around 1905 in Smethwick Birmingham
He joined the RAF 1921 until 1945
I do not have a service No for him but am very interested to find out where he served
before being made Adjutant

I know he was stationed in the clarendon Hotel in Morecambe
and I believe he died 1974

ArgyllGran Report 26 Apr 2021 16:25

Military records after 1920 are not online.

Advice here:

Who were his parents? It doesn't sound as if you've done any research into him.

There are three possible births:

GRO Reference: 1904 M Quarter in KING'S NORTON Volume 06C Page 517

GRO Reference: 1905 J Quarter in KING'S NORTON Volume 06C Page 494

GRO Reference: 1906 S Quarter in KING'S NORTON Volume 06C Page 461

ArgyllGran Report 26 Apr 2021 16:26

His death??

Deaths Mar 1974 (>99%)
Round Albert 3AP1905 Leeds 2c 982

If so, the birth with mother's name Enderbury will be the correct birth.

Parents' marriage:

Marriages Mar 1894 (>99%)
Enderbury Ada Jane W. Bromwich 6b 970
Round George Henry W. Bromwich 6b 970

As Amy remarried in 1951, I wonder if this might be a remarriage for Albert?
(Just a possibility)

Marriages Mar 1951 (>99%)
INGHAM Lorna D ROUND Lancaster 10c 1379
ROUND Albert SMITH Lancaster 10c 1379
ROUND Albert INGHAM Lancaster 10c 1379
SMITH Lorna D ROUND Lancaster 10c 1379

Lorna's previous marriage:

Marriages Dec 1938 (>99%)
Ingham Lorna D Smith Lancaster 8e 1473
Smith James Ingham Lancaster 8e 1473

Lorna Doreen Smith
in the 1939 England and Wales Register
Name: Lorna Doreen Smith [Lorna Doreen Round]
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Married
Birth Date: 9 Jan 1918
Residence Year: 1939
Address: 4
Residence Place: Morecambe and Heysham, Lancashire, England
Occupation: Shop Assistant
Line Number: 14
Schedule Number: 125
Sub Schedule Number: 2
Enumeration District: NWEA
Borough: Morecambe and Heysham
Registration district: 479-2 Enumeration District 18A
Household Members Age
Sarah E Ingham 72 - 19 Aug 1867
Lorna Doreen Smith 21

GRO Reference: 1945 S Quarter in LANCASTER Volume 08E Page 733

Marriages Mar 1890 (>99%)
Gilby Sarah Emily Leeds 9b 476
Ingham Charles Benjamin Leeds 9b 476

GRO Reference: 1867 S Quarter in KIRKSTALL Volume 09B Page 270

But they had no children up to 1911
So I don't know how Lorna fits in, either as a child or grandchild of Sarah - possibly adopted?.
Can't see her birth - or death.

However, that's not relevant to Albert Round.

From 1956 to 1961 (as far as ERs on Ancestry go) -

Albert Round
in the West Yorkshire, England, Electoral Registers, 1840-1962
Name: Albert Round [ and Lorna Doreen Round ]
Year: 1956
Country: England
County: West Yorkshire
Parliamentary Division: Skipton
Place of Abode: The Cottage, Little Stainforth
Reference Number: SKIP:22/1

and then another marriage for Lorna ??

Deleted the marriage (1964 in Leeds) as it's not hers. (See ErikaH's post below - on 27 April at 13:05)

Don't know where Albert was between 1961 and 1974.

Hi ArgyllGran
Thankyou for the information I have looked him up in the past
It was actually using Ada Enderbury line being different name that I managed to find him
I knew he was in the RAF and I have actually been to the chip shop which his wife ran in the war whilst he was away .... I have some great pictures of him so I know I’m lucky
I know he ran a Hotel in Morecambe for a number of years he left Morecambe with Lorna and her daughter.... who said to my mother you will never see him again we are moving ... sad my mother never did see him again I did find out he was a warden in a care home somewhere in Leeds
Thankyou for taking the time you have filled some gaps
I will try the RAF for any info (do you think it’s worth going down this line
My next stop is to get a copy of his death and find his grave and visit and pay my
I really appreciate you taking the time and use of your knowledge I’m fascinated
My mother passed away I’m his eldest grandchild in my 60,s will they let me access his records ?

Yes, you can apply for the record. Read the guidance on the link I provided on my thread.

PatinCyprus Report 27 Apr 2021 10:27

He has been dead over 25 yrs so you will be able to get his records. Under 25 yrs it's next of kin or with the permission of next of kin :-)

That 1964 marriage is the daughter - and she's on the current ER, so discretion is needed

Her mother's death

A daughter was born to Albert and Lorna prior to their marriage

She married in 1969 and, sadly, died very young

First name(s) Janet Susan
Last name Buck
Death year 1983
Death date 18 Dec 1983
Probate year 1984
Probate date 28 Mar 1984
Residence town Leeds
Registry Leeds

A further possible daughter's birth is on freebmd

ArgyllGran Report 27 Apr 2021 17:02

Albert and Amy also had three children, registered in Lincolnshire, 1929-35.

This one died young:

Births Jun 1929 (>99%)
Round Nevil J Whiting Ipswich 4a 1659

Deaths Mar 1936 (>99%)
Round Neville J 6 Ipswich 4a 1361

The second child may have married twice, in Lancaster RD, is on the 2018 ER for that area, and appears to still be living there.

I don't see the third child in later life

ErikaH Report 27 Apr 2021 17:11

Ipswich is in Suffolk ;-) ;-)

ArgyllGran Report 27 Apr 2021 17:41

Oops, so it is!

In which case -
two children in Suffok, and one in Lincs.
