I could not agree more. The current round of changes to the message boards is a breath of fresh air.

And if anyone dares mention that the members should have been consulted first -- they were and GR has acted accordingly.

TootyFruity Report 6 May 2011 20:05

I think this is the best thing to happen to this site for a very long time.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 May 2011 21:20

I think the changes are great

They really did listen to us

Of course, it will take some time to get used to all of the changes, and to find our way round the site .............. and of course, some people will not like them

But just think back to those horrendous changes last time!

These changes seem user friendly, rather than techno driven

You will get pimples on your tongue telling fibs about MrsCx being sweet and wee Frank.......then you will have to walk around with it like this
:P Tuts..

Oohh thank you Cynthia,

I'm the angelic, blond hair blue-eyed three year old with my sister and great grandmother at my grandmother's farm near Lyon, France.

FBG, I'm just sweet talking our little Cynthia. ;-)

Derek Report 7 May 2011 01:00

Complete nonsense........I thought that any invasion of the privacy associated with living relatives was sacrosanct!..Now you have devoted a whole Board to "Living Relatives..................not one reply!!..........I rest my case!!

Derek.

Dame*Shelly*("\(*o*)/") Report 7 May 2011 01:49

At the moment im loveing the new change

the profile is the best thing GR has done so fare

haveing a board just for finding living relatives yer im not to share about that one

would i like some one looking for me and adding my name on the internet no

BUT when some one is trying to fine some one thay have to try in every way thay can
and yep iv also had peeps doing ER look ups for me and came up trumps

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 7 May 2011 06:56

Derek

Of course there are no replies showing on the Living Relatives Board .............

that board is not part of these changes, it has been present and available for use for the last couple of weeks

.......... replies CANNOT be made on the board ...... all replies have to be sent to the thread owner by pm

so one will never know how many replies there have been, nor how many people will have sent the same information .............. or, heaven forfend, if any wrong information has been sent.

There HAS been a lot of concern expressed to GR about that Living Relatives board ........... because the questioners are posting all kinds of information in their posts, which CAN be seen easily, much of the information being very personal and possibly / probably invasion of privacy.

Up until now, the ONLY place to contact GR with some hope of response was on the GR wall on Facebook ............. that page has been full of concerns about the Living Relatives.

I'm not about to help on that Board, because I have very serious concerns about searching on the internet for birth parents or children ....... I think it much better for such searches and contact to be done through somewhere where a mediator can help.

Some people have posted on facebook to say that Board has been helpful for them, and that they have had many replies. I have not looked at the Success Board on here to see whether anyone is reporting success through Finding Living Relations

but you had no need to make such a sarky remark ........ especially as it is UNTRUE

Susan Report 9 May 2011 17:40

Having not visited site for short while I was somewhat surprised to find the new layout to be much less useful than previous. Jumbled is the word that springs to mind. Anyone else feel the same - or is it just a case of getting used to it? The previous format seemed simple enough, now every search I do seems to throw so much stuff in that I wasn't looking for - makes it a trawling exercise. Any tips anyone? :S

Tracey Report 12 May 2011 08:28

sorry but i think the change around is horrendous. i definitely do not like the finding ancestors board, they should have kept the surname board. now it is even harder to post a topic, because if you do it wrong you will have the moderators on you immediately.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 12 May 2011 08:29

This site does not yet have moderators

Tracey

Tracey Report 12 May 2011 08:33

i know but they feel like it when they tell you off for a little mistake that you didn't know about. it should be kept simple and easy for everyone to use.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 12 May 2011 11:26

The recent updates were largely as a result of a member survey that GR conducted recently. Did you participate in the survey? Those of us who did are generally happy with what has been done.

As mentioned, there are no moderators on the site, although there are a few members, who, dare I say, see themselves as self appointed caretakers of what they interpret as the "rules"

GR do, however, publish tips and guidelines for using the site, e.g. have a look under Help Clinic, above left and there also stickies on the subject on some of the boards. It is better that you take note of theses, rather than worry about someone telling you off because, in their opinion, you got it 'wrong'

ElizabethK

ElizabethK Report 12 May 2011 14:38

Dare I say ? I think if GR implement even a few of these "suggestions" we will never get sorted !

TootyFruity

TootyFruity Report 12 May 2011 14:57

Tracey you just post on finding ancestors. Members will be only too happy to help and please do not be put off by anyone. We have all been in the same position and had to learn the ropes. In my case still learning :D

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 13 May 2011 01:12

"there are a few members, who, dare I say, see themselves as self appointed caretakers of what they interpret as the 'rules'"

And then there are the very few who see themselves as the self-appointed pontificators about anything and anyone, and experts on all things everything, eh InspectorGreenPen?

Once again, the notion of "manners" that prevails hereabouts leaves me confused. It's dandy to insult a supposed group of nameless people with smears like this, when everyone in the know knows who the targets are, just not to have the guts to name names.

pittsy Report 13 May 2011 07:35

I love the new email service if you are not on-line. When I post I stay on line as long as I can but this is a great help. I only started posting a couple of months ago despite being a member for a much longer time. I find the people are so helpful and yes we all make mistakes. I have been very politely told today to not use capital letters for subject headings and which post sites to move my questions to which have been very helpful.

Thanks to everyone for helping me with my searches and brick walls.
