This was on the Announcements Board on here when I looked just now.

Haven't yet been over to FB to see if they posted over there, or, if so, when.

Hi everyone, as you know there have been ongoing performance issues for several months now. Our most experienced Genes developer, Toby, has been working on this for the last week. He has made some improvements so that changes which are normally made via our live database are now actioned in the background. This means that the live database isn't drawn on so much, which is why performance has been affected. This is a work in progress and Toby will continue to make changes over the coming week. We'd like to thank you for alerting us to the problems you've experienced. We are really sorry it has taken so long to resolve. However, you should start to see an improvement. Please bear with us as these changes will be gradual, but we're confident that you will find the site is working much better than it has been.

Well at least it is on this site

But looks like it was posted first on FB

:-P

Joy

Joy Report 27 Dec 2011 13:03

Yes, first on FB, then about an hour later in genes reunited. :-(

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 27 Dec 2011 13:14

Why are the GR team still posting first on FB ?

Come on GR get your A*** into gear !!!!

:-0 :-| :-S :-P

Joy

Joy Report 4 Jan 2012 12:19

For genes reunited staff to respond on its page in facebook concerning the appalling behaviour of its abuse support team shows to me an utter disregard for the members of genes reunited who, to my mind, have been abused verbally by the abuse support team.

VIVinHERTS Report 4 Jan 2012 12:35

Yes Joy, there does seem to be utter disregard for Genes Reunited members.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 4 Jan 2012 13:41

No respect shown to members once again

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Jan 2012 17:23

and the reply they did make on this site is far from satisfactory!

Not to mention the officiousness in removing all postings on the topic on the GR wall on FB ......................... because they were repetitive!

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 5 Jan 2012 13:06

So are we supposed to use Twitter now to find out what is happening on this site

Goes from bad to bl**dy ridiculous

GR Team seem to spend too much time on other sites rather than on this one

Joy

Joy Report 5 Jan 2012 13:08

As genes reunited staff seem to prefer twitting and facebook, will message boards be kept in existence for paying members?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Jan 2012 01:23

TWITTER ??????????????????????

Thou jokest, dost thou not?

I will NOT go on Twitter .................

But I will be leaving GR if this kind of thing continues

Far too much time is being spent on so-called Social Media ...... time that should be spent dealing with the problems on THIS site and with the discontented current existing membership

It is becoming more and more obvious that the existing paying members count for nothing in the eyes of GR

well, I suppose they think they can replace us with new paying members attracted by postings on Twitter and FB ....... so they don't care if we walk.

That, of course, is after they have crowed about the excellent help that can be provided by members assisting on Community Boards.

In other words, they're using US at the same time as they trying to get rid of us ........................

and succeeding very well in that last endeavour

The squeaky wheel gets discarded

although there is such a thing here as whistle blower protection

and I'm beginning to see myself almost as a whistle blower .....

Twitter ye not Sylvia :-D

If you look at the Social Media Blog on here, it tells you the thinking behind using FB and Twitter. You can add your comments there too.

I have to admit (as I have before), that I am very into FB as well as GR but I am not interested in Twittering.........well not in that sense anyway. I can 'witter' for England though :-D

I've also just discovered that the Media section is now under the Community tab. It used to be on the front page - the bit where you can share your videos, pictures and success stories.

Trouble is, there may not be any success stories to share if you clever researchers aren't around to help folk :-(

Hope GR get their act together soon.......... :-S

From facebook an hour ago:

Hi everyone,

Just so that you are aware, we will be releasing some new code to the site this morning that we hope will improve site performance. We will also be releasing a new version of the family tree. You may experience some minor disruptions to the site whilst we implement these changes. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks

The Genes Team

Very disappointing that genes support staff are communicating elsewhere but not in their own site, very disheartening. :-( :-|

My apologies to them on this occasion. It is in announcements but nothing had shown up as new.

Kense

Kense Report 19 Jan 2012 11:42

There is a new indication if you go via Community but what is needed is some flag against Announcements on the Board Summary.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Jan 2012 19:28

What was needed was notification on EVERY Board ..................... los of people don't look at Announcements because they use Favourites or Bookmarks to go directly to their threads, then move around from there.

Businesses should know that their Support desk is extremely important in keeping customers, members or clients happy.

GR's fails abysmally in that department

One minor example from this morning .......... I've read reports on FB that people were in the middle of working on their tree when the site went black ........................

............ why could GR not have copied Ancestry?

When they are going to shut down the site, they post a banner that runs across the top of the screen saying that the site will be shut down on such-and-such a date and time about 24 hours before it happens.

Simple!

Re Announcements. It's hard to know how many places we should flag up announcements. The Activity Alert on the home page (now reimplemented without the performance impact of before) will show ALL stickied posts from the Announcements board. This is a start I think. But it is possibly to reuse this functionality elsewhere on the site. Maybe on the Boards Summary page also? We're going to try smaller steps and take greater notice of your feedback.
