Kellie

you are very new on here, and obviously don't know much about how GR works

GR does actually ban people who are found to be inveterate RR'ers for no reason ............

Unfortunately, the problem that GR and ALL OTHER SITES face is the problem that such people re-join under another name .... and there is nothing that can be done to stop that.

GR has told me that they watch for the ISP address being re-used ............ but that is easily avoided!

Some people have more money than sense!:-D

so we get the situation that is happening here ............ someone was banned 2 weeks ago, but has seemingly re-joined and continued their activity.

Hiyas,
I only just found out what RR meant but I'd suggest GR takes the same approach as a few other sites and looks into the constant RR clickers...

If the RR clickers appear to click constantly for certain persons (and not the post contents etc) then they should be warned and removed for 3 months....

All sites need people with an opinion,,,,,or the site just doesn't work.

The problem is not the T&C or the guidelines the problem is that these rules are being used and abused to stop any one saying some thing that is a perfectly reasonable response when debating or chatting in general on a subject

The people doing this are the ones that GR should be focused on and not members who have responded with a valid point/opinion

And, it's not just fouling the T's and C's that you can get rr'd for, there are also the guidelines for message board posting that can catch you out.

I had a feeling that the Report Abuse area was different but I can't find my previous copy of the T&Cs to check.

It's probably just their address they've changed.

How difficult would it be to add to the RR drop down box the Email address and password of the person making the report ?

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 19 Mar 2012 12:51

Well GR themselves are not denying it IGP...this is the reply they gave

Hi everyone,

I would just like to assure you all that we are taking this matter very seriously. As you know, we were experiencing unwarranted RR's only a week ago and once we had identified the member responsible, banned them from the site. However, it is possible that they have re-registered. We are looking into ways that we can stop this from happening.

Only allowing paid members to RR is an option that we are considering.

As soon as a post is RR'd, it is removed from the boards. This logic was implemented on the advice of our members as some abusive posts or posts with personal details in were not being removed quickly enough.

Obviously, because of the behaviour of possibly one or a small handful of members, we will now have to rethink this logic.

I apologise profusely for any distress or inconvenience this has caused to those being RR'd. Please can I ask for your patience whilst we identify and implement the best solution to stop this happening in the future. It is very upsetting for those being targeted, but please rest assured that we will be taking action against those responsible.

Thanks

Katie

WE might not have proof this is done on a free account, though logic says they wouldn't be doing it on a paid account then re-registering on another paid account ad infinitum, unless they've got more money than sense, but GR certainly WILL have proof.

InspectorGreenPen Report 19 Mar 2012 12:27

I am being 'devils advocate' to an extent but then there is no proof that reporting is malicious either.

When reporting you only have to say that the post has caused you upset, or even that is is capable of causing upset to someone and bang it is in contravention of the Guidlines for posting on the Boards and gets removed.

Don't get me wrong I have been the victim of unfair rr's myself on several occasions to and agree the system need modifying but we can't make sweeping assumptions as to what might or might not be happening when we simply don't know.

Who is or isn't allowed to rr is neither here nor there. What is more of an issue for me, is the apparent lack of consistency and transparency with the way the process operates.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 19 Mar 2012 11:59

No there isn't any proof but it stands to reason that a paid account would be less likely to jeopardise their membership by reporting maliciously than one that was throwaway x
