You did Sylvia, But I thought I would "add" it to my post as it fits in with the content and context/continuity of my complaint/post

Roy

there has been a change today .........................

i got an email from GR late afternoon your time .................

Dear Sylvia

You recently added a message board response using your Genes Reunited membership.

It has been brought to our attention that the nature of this posting breaches the Message Board guidelines and terms and conditions of our website and the item has now been removed from Genes Reunited.

Here's a copy of the post:

xxxx

you cannot CLOSE a thread

you can only stop posters by removing the thread

<br/ (remainder removed)

We feel it breaches the following message board guidelines:

2. Inappropriate content

Please do not communicate anything that is, or could be considered to be, vulgar, profane or offensive.

Please do not communicate anything that is, or could be considered, abusive, intimidating, discriminatory, threatening, mean spirited or intended to harass or cause (or be capable of causing) trouble, upset or offence to anyone.

Continuing to create content of this nature may result in your eventual removal from the site.

We thank you in anticipation of your co-operation and adherence to the terms of your Genes Reunited membership.

Kind Regards,

Genes Reunited Support Team

it does not tell me which thread, although it was easy to determine.

That was the one they reinstated then removed later when they removed Reggie and Renes posts

Roy

SylviaInCanada Report 8 May 2013 21:41

yep!

so also showing inconsistency in how they deal with posts!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 8 May 2013 21:45

ah

so you've learnt how to incorporate other posts into your own? :-D :-D

Actually, I've realised what must have happened.

I did type the message, hit submit ............... then went elsewhere, and did not see that it must have gone to .........

........... wait for it ..........................

the ERROR message.

and then it must have not posted at all.

Renes Report 8 May 2013 22:48

Roy
My post was removed because I quoted a GR members word -
( what we were told, was a childhood slang word - from memory ),
the word in question was """"ignoramus """"
It would seem that this s a "reserved" word - not for the likes of me

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 8 May 2013 23:38

Renes, I saw the post you refer too, it appears its OK for one member to post such words then aggressively defend using the word, And to then to go on and report others for using that same word,

Hypocrisy of the highest order is the only was to describe that behaviour

Renes Report 9 May 2013 00:18

Roy,

As you may remember, there were several pages of comments regarding the use of the "word", but unfortunately the thread was eventually removed .

I would have C&P in my response email.

I was aware of differing classes of packages offered to members, but had not appreciated fully, until today, that there were differing classes of member, within those packages .....

Yes, hypocrisy, is definitely the correct word in this instance ...

and applies to GR as well ...

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 9 May 2013 00:47

actually the word you are looking for is "ignoranianus"

GR think this thread has been removed.............no further comment necessary

CupCakes Report 10 May 2013 09:53

Come on guys be nice - after all the nastiness this thread is totally inappropriate.

You are making being rrd as if it is a badgeof honour.

And on the Suggestion boards as well.

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 10 May 2013 10:42

NS,

If you feel that this thread is totally inappropriate or inappropriately placed on the Suggestions board then you do have the option to refer it for review should you wish.

That will allow GR staff the opportunity to decide whether or not they agree with you.

Genes Advisor Report 10 May 2013 10:51

Hi Porkie,
I'm really sorry if you didn't receive an email explaining which post of yours was removed and why. This was oversight on our part and I will now send you a copy of the post which was removed and a copy of the terms and conditions of the boards the post breached.
For every post which is removed you should receive a copy of the post we removed and a copy of the terms and conditions breached and I do apologise if we failed to do this on one occasion.
Occasionally we will also remove whole threads which will mean that many posts are removed. The posters who have posted on the thread will not be informed of this unless their post on the thread was reported for review.
Hope this helps

Porkie_Pie Report 10 May 2013 12:01

Rachel, Thanks for your reply and I have now received the email from GR with the offending "line"

However I still feel that GR are being over protective of serial RRers and serial offenders, The site would be IMO more member friendly if T&C and guidelines as listed on the site had more than a "threat" of a ban and other possibly less draconian measures where introduced and implemented first before a total profile removal and ban was implemented

Regards

Roy

ErikaH Report 10 May 2013 12:09

The failure to notify removal of posts is not a one-off by any means...........

I had to ask for info about one of mine being removed from this thread.................not that I got an explanation, only belated notification that it had gone. There was no possible reason for its removal under the site's T&C's

But, of course, the person who referred it has a special relationship with GR

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 10 May 2013 12:24

NS, As Jonesey said you have the option to refer it for review

This thread as you know full well was RR'd and reinstated by GR who have gone on to comment on 3 separate occasions so they obviously feel it is appropriate to be on the suggestions board and further more It appears it has also had the desired affect of bringing to GR's attention the concerns of members with regards to the reporting system and I think in the near future as a direct result we may see some changes for the better.

CupCakes Report 10 May 2013 13:00

Jonesey - wise one - I'm considering what to do - certainly the ones that are making it clear who they are obviously talking about

Gai

Gai Report 10 May 2013 13:05

In my opinion this thread is on the correct board as if you read the blurb that GR have put at the top of the board it reads.

This board is for you to add your suggestions for changes you would like to see made to Genes Reunited. We will be unable to respond to each post individually, but we will be checking the suggestions regularly and taking your suggestions on board.

The paragraph of Roy' s opening post reads:

Can I suggest if you have changed your policy that you adhere to it and permanently remove members profiles who have clearly had more than 3 threads/posts reported and removed in the last week or two but are still active on this site.

So Roy has made a suggestion on the Suggestions Board so it's seems perfectly logical to me the post should be here.

Anyone disagree?
