The Store which Tempest speaks of is now John Lewis store and there is a plaque to that effect in the store, I have seen it but alas didn't take a photo of it but I will do on my next visit.

if the 1881 cesus is correct why is margerets mothers name is emmerson if margeret surname is barker.

On the 1881 census Margaret's mother is living with them and her surname is Emmerson she is a widow

Why do some people have such intresting family stories? Mine is so humdrum in comparison!

oh i know what had happened now,because my husbands uncle told us a story ,saying his his father had been disowned by his family as he was supposed to of fell in love with one of the lady servants in his home,and he was left out of any inheritance,maybe that was the reason why.,he was a bigamist ,oh my god what a shock that is,i thought something wasn,t adding up now i know why thanks for your help everone ,i,m addicted now
