Please can someone lend a hand? I have a 1901 census for Abraham Peachey 1848, Essex, Manningtree, London. Night Watchman. I also found his marriage entry to Jessie Tyrrell. But can find nothing else here on GR. If anyone can find anything earlier that the 1901 census it would be most helpfull, thankyou, Susan.

Hello liz47, yes that is the family and i have searched for them on this site. But no matches in anyones trees.

Abraham Peachey married Jessie Tyrell 18/1/1885 St Paul Bow Common
He was 42 -she was 31. His father was William Peachey -her father was Joseph william Wiltshire

In 1881 he is mistranscribed as Abraham Teachey 39, Porter b Essex and brotherinlaw to George Godman (wife Esther 44 b Essex) living 37 Oxford St Whitchapel

Already the 1891 census you gave liz has revealed a daughter i didnt know about! Is there anything earlier by any chance please!

Is this Jessie - if so, she states "twice married 35 years total" and "children born 6 - still living 6" on original and gives her marital status as widow - Albert has a different surname????

Haven't found the marriage as yet for Jessie and John.

A John Fryman Tyrell born 1815 died 1884 in Poplar London.

I think Jessie's maiden name is probably Wiltshire given her fathers name on the marriage details I posted earlier

Susan -why have you ruled out the Abraham Petchy whose birth details I posted? Bishops Stortford is the reg dist for Manuden where Abraham was born and there are loads of Peachey/Peachy/Petchy variant names living in Manuden or born there in the early censuses. Remember spelling did not become standardised until the late 19th century

The mystery is where Abraham was in 1861 and 1871 -I suspect possibly serving in the army abroad
Nor can I as yet find William (his stated father) who ought to be around in 1841 at least but he could be a figment of Abrahams imagination

Searching for the Esther (who is Abrahams sister in the 1881 Census I posted I found her as Hester with her mother Sarah and siblings in 1841 in Manewdon (the spelling of that place has also changed over the years!)

Next door is a Rebecca Petchey 30 and family. Both she and Sarah have "Ag Labs wife" against their names which hasbeen crossed out -not I think because it was not true but because it wasnt required by the census
Presumably their husbands were working away from home

1851 Sarah Peachy mother of Abraham is a widow,on same page are Joshua Petchley 1805 and wife sarah.
Joshua's parents are John 1775-1841 and Mary.
They also had Mary 1797
Dorcie or Dorcas female 1800-1881
John 1802 married Rebecca,is this rebecca next door to sarah in 1841?
James 1804-1888 he married Susan.had Mary rebecca and hannah

So who did Sarah marry is the question.

Esther Peachey Abraham's sister married A/M/J 1866 Mile End Old Town 1c 1104 to George Godman.

William Peachey died J/F/M 1849 v6 384 in Bishop Stortford is this Abraham's dad?

Well, Sarah is supposed to have married a William according to Abrahams marriage details but that cant be relied on

Rosina Peachey married in stepney 1866 to joseph lawrence

on census returns it has her born Manuden or manningtree Essex
1881/1891/1901 Joseph is a coffee house keeper.
1891 with them are Etty V Godman 1866 and Annie Godman 1875 children of Esther (Peachey) and george Godman.

1871 census has mary Ann Peachey born 1850 daughter of sarah at the home of John Hall and Caroline.
Caroline was born about 1810 in manuden so could this be sister of William ,Abraham's dad.
On marriages for Esther and Rosina it says father is William..

Hello Liz And Gillian, sorry i didnt get back sooner. I decided to do some late night comfort eating and polished off the remainder of the Cristmas nuts.It was a very very bad idea! The reason i dismissed the info for Abraham Peachey is that on the 1901 Census is states his place of birth as ... Essex, Manningtree, London. Ah, i have just spotted Marys post regarding Rosina Peachey, born Manuden or Manningtree Essex! I dont know the connection between the two but its looking good i feel.
