Simon

We now have to base it on that he was born either year of 1890.

There is only one in London in 1891

Births Dec 1891 (>99%)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carter Joseph Stanford Hackney 1b 513

None in Warwickshire for 1891

One in Warwickshire 1889

Births Dec 1889 (>99%)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Carter Joseph Birmingham 6d 91

None in London in 1889.

I know that this can be a costly business but if you can get someone to have a look for you if they are going down the records office and to see if one of these was born without a father being registered.

You don't know if he had a middle name do you?

Lesley

Hi Lesley, could you possibly do a 1871 lookup for me? There is a Margaret Lancaster aged 18 listed in Preston, Lancashire, in the index of that Census. I believe it may be my GG grandmother, who married in Preston aged 23 in 1875 (she died just before the 1881 census aged 28). Her father Richard Lancaster was a publican but may have died before 1871. I will be curious to know whether this Margaret is living with her family and, if so, who they are.

Thanks!

Sean

There are quite a few - does it state what year she was born and was she living in preston or was she born there?

No, the "Search Records" facility on GR for the 1871 Census does not give a place of birth, I think the location listed is where the person was living in April 1871 i.e. in this case Preston. Someone aged 18 in 1871 would be presumed by GR to be born in 1853.

The only info GR gives is Lancaster, Margaret - 18 - Preston, Preston

I suspect Margaret was born in Preston, certainly in Lancashire

There are two listed, as far as I can see. I am interested in the 18 year old, not the 17 year old. I guess I will have to wait till I have a long enough list of lookups to buy some credits. Thanks for looking.

I guess Lancaster would be a justifiaby popular surname in Lancastershire ;o)

I suspect that 'my' Richard is the Richard Lancaster married in Preston district in 1850 Sept Qtr.

I have a photo of Margaret, which makes her story all the more interesting to me. Well, thankls for the detective work. I need to get some shut eye.

Mrs Rosemarie

Mrs Rosemarie Report 1 Mar 2008 11:11

I am trying to trace my long deceased grandmother Margare Mary Henigan
My father John Hall Galloway was born on November 29 1915 at Bridgegate Glasgow and registered at Blythswood Glasgow.
His birth certificate shows his parents as Andrew Galloway writer and Margaret Mary Galloway MS Hennigan married 1905 June 3rd Glasgow.
This should give me her place of birth and fathers name but I cannot find this marriage certificate in Scotlands people, maybe because of inexperience with Scottish records.
My father was raised as a Catholic so they may have married in a Catholic Church if it makes a difference?

I will be grateful for anything you can do ,or any advice. (If it is too onerous I shall not be hurt if you come back and say so!!
