Lost for Words ;-)

Lost for Words ;-) Report 8 Jul 2008 21:34

Hi Lisa

The quick answer is I don't know. Not all divorce records survived and in later years I believe that only a few were kept. I found this on the National Archives website, it might be worth ringing them to see if they can advise you where else to look.

Between 1858 and 1927 almost all divorce files survive. Between 1928 and 1937, the 80% of suits that were filed in the Central Registry are in J 77. The 20% of suits that were filed in the new district registries were destroyed (they are not indexed by J 78). After 1938, very few survive
Many files contain marriage certificates. Later files (after 1938) may contain photographs.

I wonder if they would be kept by the solicitors but how you would track them down I don't know.

Hi Amanda, so sorry to hear about your Grandma, i too lost my Nan to cancer, and it was a terrible time, my heart goes out to you.

big hug,

Lisa Report 6 Jul 2008 14:56

Hello LFW,

thanks a lot for that!,

I have already got the divorce in 1937, but if someone has been divorced would it definitely be on that site do you know?

We are looking into the possiblity that Harry Gordon Kausman who has been married three times, never actually got divorced from his 2nd wife Margaret Martin, before he married his third wife Joan Welbourn in you, or anyone know of anyway of finding out??

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Lisa

Re Divorces, it's the National Archives site you want and they are the J77 records in the catalogue. Their is one for a Harry Kausman 1937.

Lisa Report 2 Jul 2008 19:10

Hello again!
Back from my hols, and back on the trail!!!

Meeting with my Grandmothers friend was amazing and thankfully solved a few riddles!

Hyman Harry Kausman WAS my Grandfather!!

They found a screwed up half a birth cert with Hyman Harrys name just showing on the corner!!! They had no idea about it so were relieved also when i explained about the name changes!

I ordered his full birth cert and his father was Woolfe Kausman!! So thanks to everyone for their input regarding this matter!

Looks like the whole family changed their names!

Returned home to a few certificates!! and Maurice Abraham is also my Maurice Arthur!

Also received a marriage cert for Woolfe, he married a Simmy Solomon on 13 Sep 1903.

My next quest is to establish where they came from and wondered if anyone could help (again please!!)

Does anyone have access to Polish records?

According to a Brian Hills who has a family tree with this whole family on, he states:

Woolfe (or Woolf, as he has added him,)
was born in Lodz, Poland in 1885..

Would it be poss to try and find a record of this???
and is there any way of finding out his whereabouts between 1885 and his marriage in 1903, in Bishopsgate London.

Woolfes Fathers name was Abraham Kausman.

Any help much appreciated!

Hope everyone is well!

Lisa Report 19 Jun 2008 10:44

Morning all, is anyone able to look up a marriage for me please? Have searched this morning but i can't see one...

Christopher Kausman married to a lady surname Sim

circa 1965 - 1975 Devon/Bristol or Huntingdon Area
Many thanks,
Much appreciated!

Nicki Report 18 Jun 2008 17:11

Wow - all very exciting!!

Lisa Report 18 Jun 2008 16:21

lol, didn't think about phoning!!

Yes i was just thinking about mailing the Lise Thorne on her FB, maybe its her sister?

Gonna do that now..still no news from either of them!

Did have one bit of luck today!
Maurice Kausman, My dads uncle (Christophers dad who died recently) was awarded an OBE for involvement on the Fisheries board, protecting the river Ouse, i have recieved information from a fishing website! I have been sent the address of someone (from Downing St!!! who was his friend and colleague!) Apparently if i write to him, he may be able to give me some information) Also it turns out he knew John Major!!! (On a personal level!) So thats all intriguing!

The thick they say ;-)

Nicki Report 18 Jun 2008 12:24

Hopefully the net is closing in!!!

Only 2 friends ...............!!

If Pernille does not reply to you there is one her mates who has Pernille as a friend - so you could always go down that route!!

I'd have phoned Thailand by now as I am very impatient.
