Er. Ahem.

>>> EvieBeavie 1st January 2009 23:59 <<<

Well here's a household in 1881 who fits that William -- the census was taken in the same month as they married in 1894, so age 7 in 1881 could be slightly off from age 21 in 1894. What was the legal minimum age for marriage?

Name: William Williams
Age: 7
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1874
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Richard
Mother's Name: Mary
Where born: Lpool, Lancashire, England

Civil Parish: Toxteth Park
County/Island: Lancashire
Street address: 36 Combermere St

Richard Williams 38 - occupation Labourer
Mary Williams 37
Richard Williams 11
John Williams 10
Margt. Williams 9
William Williams 7
Louisa Williams 6
Mary Williams
John Williams 42
William Lee 25

Having looked at original 1911 census I have diacovered that my grandparents William and Mary Williams had two other children that died.

I have just sent for williams brothers birth cert. (Hopefully its the right one.) then I will know his mothers maiden name and I can research that side of family. Wow! I would be bored without all this going on now.

But my thanks goes to all the people who have helped me on this site.

Cheers Jean

Dang, Carol, I didn't get to use up my few remaining SP credits in the few remaining hours I have for doing it. ;)

Of the marriages, the only really applicable ones (spouses old enough, and married when children in 1881 were born) are:

1859 RICHARDSON JAMES DAVIDSON CATHERINE JOHNSTONE /RENFREW 559/03 0072

1874 RICHARDSON JAMES MCLEAN CATHERINE HIGH CHURCH GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/02 0127
(after birth of daughter Jane though)

1868 RICHARDSON JAMES WILLIAMSON CATHERINE ELDER NEWINGTON EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/05 0392

This looks like the 1881 household, in 1871 in Liverpool -- since that's where daughter Jane was born, that's where they would most likely have been then:

James Richardson 30 - born Wigtown, Scotland c1841, occupation Mariner
Catherine Richardson 35 - born Wigtown, Scotland, c1836
Jane Richardson 7 months - born Liverpool

The 1881 James was a dock labourer. Is that what your Mary's father's occupation was on her marriage certificate, Jean?

A possible marriage in Manchester that could be them:

Marriages Sep 1865
Corbett Bridget Manchester 8d 673 Scan
Greenwood James Manchester 8d 673
> Maguire Catherine Manchester 8d 673
> Richardson James Manchester 8d 673

although Maguire sounds more Irish - ?

Daughter Jane was 7 months old in 1871. She would most likely be this one (the birth registered in June Q 1870 would make that one at least 9 months old for the 1871 census):

Births Sep 1870
Richardson Jane Liverpool 8b 58

If that's the right one, it would give the mother's birth surname.

If this is the right James. ;)

Name variations, I'd say -- Jane / Janet / Jean somewhat interchangeable.

Also there's the possibility of mistranscriptions. You can see the originals at ScotlandsPeople.
