Hello Derek,
thank- you for the info on Robert Lennox 1745 married to Mary Greenwood 1774 the other Robert Lennox married to Ann,Dickens 06/12/1803 will be his son because the dates work out his D-O-B 1777 would make him about 26 . Derek Report 3 Apr 2014 15:07

Hello Charles..I think you could be struggling to go back any further. I don't have rerods for Aberford, but Family Search does.............but not before 1750. You have to realise that we are doing pretty well even at that time because so much of parish reoords are simply unreadable.

However i do have the marriage of ROBERT LENNOX to MARY GREENWOOD at Sherburn-in-Elmet 14.02.1774..along with four of their children confirmed:-

David baptised 27.07.1783
Ann baptised 10.08.1794
Joseph baptised 25.09.1785
Mary baptised 18.03.1793...all at Aberford..

There are children for Joseph above including Charles Lennox....

and A Robert Lennox married to Ann Dickens 06.12.1803 seems to be roughly contemporary to Joseph..and had chidlren at Barwick in Elmet..may have been Joseph's brother..or may even have been your Robert in a second marriage..

There is a tree on Ancestry that gives four more children for Robert and Mary, but looks dubious

Tell me what you think.

Derek.

Is there any mention of Peter Charles Connolly? He married an Ann Sweeney in Sheffield in 1861. I am trying to discover when he left Eire. He was born in 1838 in Cork or Wicklow and his father was Michael Connolly.

George Report 29 Jan 2014 15:34

Sorry if I annoyed you but all I am trying to find out is why my brother told me that story above. As you have confirmed the Brewer at 184 Coltman Street is not in my tree. So I am trying to find out if John Richard ever lived in that Street but at another house No. Thank You. Regards George

Derek Report 28 Jan 2014 16:02

George..I now have the Birth Certificate for RUBY BREWER 17.04.1927..daughter of John Richard brewer ..Ships Bosun...born at 9 Westbourne Terrace, Westbourne Street Hull
The informant is Susannah her mother..clearly Joh Richard is away on Fishing business........but I see that you have been asking questions of this family for about three years, and getting answers from lots of hard working volunteers.on different Threads....... and after all my hard work, it appears that you know it all.....far more than you originally claimed.which makes my hard work pretty redundant.........and i can imagine other people, as well as myself, getting pretty annoyed.
I have now lost interest in helping you any further..

Hi Douglas.............not easy......you say that Henry was a Captain..........that is almost certainly at Sea................I d know that an awful lot of SMALLERS came from the Lincolnshire Coast..and were fishermen or mariners..all the way up the Lincs and Yorks east coast................It is very likely that henry spent most of the Census years at sea........and probably in hisl ater years was a Skipper.......

The records that I can find are sparse, but we have a couple in the Boston Area..one of whom married aMaria Eleanor Fisher in 1864 in Scarborough..another married a Mary Balls in Caistor in 1872

Mary E Fisher does appear on the 1881 Census as a Fishermans wife..but no mention of mary Jane or henry.....

Mary Jane Smaller married William rawlingHellyar in 1897........William was born Padstow Cornwall 1867............and i bet he was also part of a Fishing community..and found his way to South Shields in a boat!!......

They are both on the 1901 and 1911 Censuses...........It looks like one of them at least was unable to have children because in 1901 they have an adopted son born 1887 George T Cole..who by 1911 is George T Hellyar.......along with another adopted child Beatrice Young Rickley born 1909.........both of these children were from Durham......maybe even from the same place.even an orphanage????

would be interested to know if you knew of these two children......

George........this is my third message today..so make sure you don't miss the other two........

I have found out a very great deal about the family of your father's wife Maud Charlotte Sylvester..whose mother was also Maud C...........but your father's parents remain a mystery.Iknow hs mother's maiden name was MORRIS.........and I have some evidence that it was Susannah Morris who married John Richard Brewer......but because I cannot find the marriage or the origins of Susannah..I don't beliebve it.

I'll tell you how you can solve thsi once and for all........send for the Birth Certificate for any of the following:-

These are your father and uncles and an aunt......

WILLIAM HENRY BREWER 1911
GEORGE ERNEST BREWER 1915
LEWIS SEPTIMUS BREWER 1919
KENNETH G 1921
RUBY 1927...................all of them will give the same parents with Mother's maiden name MORRIS

Will cost you £9.20!!

Derek Report 22 Jan 2014 12:32

Ok George.....shirtsleeves up and down to business.....forget everything I've told you for the minute..........

We definitely have a John William Brewer living in Coltman Street in the 20's and 30's..and depending on his age (born 1869) I have researched him correctly and accurately.
But there is no evidence at the moment that it is the right JWB........and indeed in light of what i have found today...it is actually unlikely.........simply by age.......

LEWIS SEPTIMUS BREWER was born OND 1919..in Sculcoates, and his mother's maiden name was MORRIS......JWB born 1869 did not have a son by 1911....so is not Lewis's father, and therefore not your grandfather........with me so far?????
The only Brewer ? Morris marriage i can find is in Bolton Lancs 1920..Her name was Minnie.
Lewis Septimus Brewer married Maud C Silvester AMJ 1942..an if your brother is about 70..would presumably be their eldest son.............

I need to know his name.......and if any of these names mean anything to you then i need to know,
We have also to find out how it is possible for you to have a grandfather in Coltman Street...when you were a child....presumably in the 1940's.

Are you still in Hull?? you need some access to Electoral Tolls for that period..to see who exactly was living in Coltman Street in that period.

I do know from newspaper reports that JWB was there in 1932.......but we now need to know who was there with him......or who else called Brewer lived in Coltman Street...becasue i think honestly that JWB may well be irrelevant..unles he had a son very very quickly after 1911!!
In case any bells ring..The only possible father i can find at the moment for lewis S..is FRANK W BREWER who married Minnie Morris at Bolton 1920......Frank may have come from Lincolnshire....

Back later.

OK George..since you ask about John 1836..let's start with the BREWER family....originating from Walkington nr Market Weighton in East Yorkshire......

WILLIAM BREWER 1811 Walkington a Groom married HARRIOTT HALL born Market Weighton 1813...............on 23.11.1833 at Rowley..pretty well the next village.

They had several children:-

Jame Hall Brewer baptised 08.05.1834
JOHN BREWER July 1836
Joseph 14.05.1838
Henry 06.08.1844
Ann 06.08.1846

They are all on the 1841 Census.

In 1851 John is Groom aged 14

In 1861 John is lodging near York and is a groom /Footman

In 1871 he is married to ISABELLA LEADLEY....whom he married at York 1863

They have two chldren at least Richard 1846............and JOHN WILLIAM born York 1866

John William appears to have lived a pretty privileged childhood because in 1881 he is a pupil at a private school at Peasholme Green, Clifton York..at St Anthony's Hall...........(and since i am actually from York..I know the Clifton/Bootham part of York is and was the poshest part of the City..and I believe that St.Anthony's Hall was part of either Bootham School, or York Minster School)

in 1891.John William is a Bookeeper..Single, and lodging in York.

1901.......He is married (1899) to Jane Annie NEESAM from Middlesboro ( the famil, as you will see later was from Brompton Northallerton)

In 1911.John and jane are in Doncaster with Constance aged 8 and Gertrude aged 6........all of which answers your original question i believe.

There is a marriage for a CONSTANCE BREWER JAS 1927 to John W Hemingway...???????????????
I've just noticed that you asked me a year ago about Brewers in Hull at the beginning of the 19th Century..which you said were your relatives............well this lot seem to be a different lot altogether..not getting to Hull till after 1920.....
I'll be back later with the NEESAMs
