Steven,
Are you still offering to do Tasmanian look ups? - I notice none have been done for several months. If so, I will get back to you in the next few days with the details of the man I wish to get info about.
Regards,
Elizabeth

Hi Trudianne
There is a Emily Jane Ayton who married Thomas Ewart in Longford Tasmania on 2 July 1878.
Also a Alice Ayton married George Strickland in Longford Tasmania on 29 July 1885 aged 21 (which would make her being born c1864).
and a Frederick Ayton married Elizabeth Ellen Hogan 18 Oct 1874 at Launceston Tasmania.
Only Alice's age is given.
As the 2 girls married in the same town and the Alice i found was born the same year as your Alice and the name "Emily Jane Ayton" is an unusual name i would think that they are your 2 girls.
Not sure about Frederick though,he is probably yours as he had 2 children born in Longford.

I can find 2 children born to Alice and George:
Harold George Strickland born 9 July 1886
Percy William Strickland born29 Oct 1887

I have found 6 children born to Emily and Thomas:
Amy Francis Ewart born 3 July 1877
Claud Olive Harold Ewart born 16 March 1887
Ida Alice Ewart born 30 Jan 1881
Leonard Thomas George born 14 Oct 1882
Minnie Grace Ewart born 31 May 1879
Victor William Henry born 21 Jan 1885

Nine children born to Frederick and Elizabeth:
Alice May Ayton born 23 May 1878
Amanda Theresa Ayton born 6 July 1882
Clynda Emily Ayton born 7 Aug 1876
Frederick Algar Ayton born 13 Jan 1875
Ivy Irene Percy Ayton born 28 April 1888
John Hogan Ayton born 14 June 1889
Oscar Tasman Ayton born 18 May 1886
Ruby Elizabeth Ayton born 26 July 1880
Sydney George Ayton born 6 Jan 1884

Richard 'George' Ayton and Margaret Lowe had 10 children born in Tasmania.

Hi Steve,
Thank you very much for your information. I have had more luck with the Australian part of the family than with the British. Still trying to find and verify Joseph's parents.
Thanks again

Steven,

Thanks for that, do they have ages listed, was there a Coupar/Cooper Meldum listed instead? It's just a bit strange, if that is his siblings, when did he come to Australia, maybe he came to Victoria.

Ellen was often known as Helen, so there is a chance of this being the same.

Sorry, I don't live in Sth Aust

Steven Report 22 Aug 2010 07:15

Hi Mel75
There was a James Medrum arrive in SA in 1867 also there was a Samuel Meldrum and Helen Meldrum arrive in 1883.Thats all the info i could find...
If you are in SA you can go to the history section of the State Library and look at the shipping records for those years.

Hi Steven,

I am trying to find when siblings William c1858, Ellen c1860 born Scotland & Samuel Meldrum c1864 Ireland, arrived in Sth Australia, they would have arrived before 1885 as this was when the 1st marriage occurred in Victoria.

There is also a possibility that they had a half-brother James Meldrum c1846, can you also check to see if he arrived in Sth Australia about the same time.

Hi Steven,
Please could you check shipping records for S. Australia
for
Joseph Jackman and his wife Millicent Hannah Jackman
could have been 2 children Mary and Thomas. They were
in England for 1861 census but were in Australia by 1868 when they had another child.
Thank you very much Elizabeth

Hi Steven,
I wonder if you would mind doing a death records lookup for me. The name is Violet Christine Satterley, date of death: 01/08/1969. I'm not sure of the place of death, just that it was Sth Australia. I'm hoping to find the names of her parents.

Thank you so much
Carol

Hello Steve,

You helped me with info a couple of months ago and I am hoping you can help me again - this time with the Rodger branch of the family in Adelaide. In particular, I would like information re Jessie Rodger (b.9/9/1884) who was married twice: first to a Mr Buyer/Beyer?, then to Norman Owen.

Thanks,

Anne
