Find Ancestors

Have found in the 1901 census my Gt Gt Grandparents Frank Conmy c1856 and Wife Margaret c1860. Frank is said to have been born in Malton NYorks and Margaret (maiden name ???) in Ireland. Have 6 children, eldest being Francis b c1882 in Market Weighton Yorks. Have been able to find birth records for all children except Francis. Cannot find Birth or Marriage records for Frank or Margaret. Cannot find either in census prior to 1901.

Can anyone help.

A further bit of info re your family

On the 1911, it states that Margaret and Frank have been married for
30 years.

There were 15 children born to this couple, nine living and six having died all children born England, Margaret says her birth was "At Sea"

Did you find this in GR as I can't bring anything up for these names. Certainly looks like the same family. Have found Birth for Martin 1890 and his death 1892, accounts for one of the dead children.

A few deaths to consider in Pocklington where the younger children on the 1911 were born

All births/deaths between census years ? But there is another Conmy in Pocklington as well.

Searched 1911 census for surname Conmy, now I am totally confused. I am guessing that the families in York and Pocklington and possibly Howden are related.

E.g. If you search all persons with the surname Conmy living with Lilian Wilson Conmy you get 3 Marys - Mary 1898, Mary 1899 & Mary Catherine 1889.

Not finding the name Conmy in GR must have been transcribed incorrectly.

Further information has suddenly come to my attention.

Margaret's maiden name is BERRY - (had thought it could be BARRY), Maiden taken from the birth cert of her son John. Now also know that Margaret had a middle name of Maud.

Could anyone with access to Irish or Scottish systems check to see if there is a birth for Margaret around 1860 ish. Apologises can't be clearer about the birth place as the census I have seen quote either Ireland, Scotland or At Sea.

Some information that came to my attention yesterday suggests she could have been the daughter of a Scottish Surgeon but as she married an Irish Labourer the family disowned her but this is all hearsay.

In the 1911 census - see details above , you will see a Thomas 22 not at home , please can anyone check the original to see if it is 22 could it be 28ish.

In the absence of anything else have ordered the marriage cert of Frank Conmy & Margaret Barry (1886).

The cert shows Frank's age as 30 and Margaret as 26 which fits with the possible years of birth. Frank is a widower, his father is Frank (Hawker). Margaret is a spinster, her father is James Barry (Coast Guardsman).

Can anyone help find a previous marriage for Frank or a birth record for Margaret (no longer sure if it is Barry or Berry).

Surely the mother's maiden name would be on all those certificates.

The only birth certificate seen shows maiden name as Berry but no longer sure that this was not a spelling mistake.

In the census the second child is Thomas William Conmy born c1883 in Selby. Have found a Thomas William Berry born Selby in1883. I was hoping that when I ordered the marriage cert for Frank & Margaret it would show Margaret as having previously married and that Thomas was her child from that marriage but subsequently took Frank's surname.
