Please could you check the electoral rolls for 1925 and 1930 for Walter E C Meeke. Unable to provide an address, but possibly in Saltley or Sparkhill areas. He may also appear in a Kelly's Trade Directory - possibly some sort of retail business. Not sure what indexes you use but if you could also look for a Maimie Dunstan or Meeke that would be very useful. In fact anything would be useful!!!

Thank you

Val,

The volume for the Electoral Roll 1925, just says Spring, as the time when taken.

1925 - 48 Upper Sutton Street, Aston John William Ulatt & Catherine Ulatt.

Nothing else I'm afraid, either for Catherine or John, I have tried the Ulett spelling and get 2 pages of them, but again no Catherine or John.

Steve,

I have "Googled" the 2 streets, and it seems you are right, they are 2 completely different street, so they must have been registered at both addresses.

Steve,

The address for William Clive & Winifred Mary Atcherley, is as it is down on the ER, so it must be a small street within a street - I think? :)

Fabulous, that's really going to help fill in some much-needed detail for a period when there would otherwise be just a few civil registration events (and for some of the Atcherleys, entries in phone books courtesy of Ancestry).

Regarding William Clive & Winifred Mary Atcherley, were they registered at both addresses (27 Streetsbrook Rd and 82/84 Sherlock St) in 1930, 1935 and 1939, or did they switch from one to the other during that time? They could have been using both addresses as William ran his coach building business (producing coach work for a variety of car manufacturers, though he was best known for his work on the Brough Superior) at Sherlock Street; the Streetsbrook Road address could have been the main family residence.

Again, many thanks Angi.

Angi - that's brilliant, thank you so much.

I knew that my dad's parents and his paternal grandparents had lived at addresses in Aston Church Road, but I hadn't realised that his maternal grandparents - and other relatives - had also lived there. There are some very interesting leads to follow up from those records, so once again thank you.

Can I be cheeky and, like Oliver, ask for more? This time, a much less common surname: Atcherley (sometimes Atcherly). That's my mum's side of the family. I suspect that all the Atcherleys are descended from one family in Shropshire around the 1400s / 1500s and I know that some were living in Birmingham during the period covered by the Electoral Rolls you have access to. When you have time could you look them up and post the details? I don't think there will be a large number but if there are a lot maybe you could split the data across two or more posts as and when you are able to?

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Hi Angi

Just to make things easy, some common surnames for you!

I'm looking for records of Alfred and Ethel Jackson. They were living at 175 Wright Road in Saltley in 1911 but later (not sure when) moved to nearby Aston Church Road (not sure of the number). Children who may possibly have appeared with them in later years before they left home were Francis Albert, Arthur Ernest and George Edward. You might find Arthur Ernest Jackson with his wife Lilian Rose / Lillian Rose / Rose after their marriage in 1934, if so that info would be very much appreciated too.

I'm also looking for Edward (or possibly Earle) Lawrence and his wife Lilian. They married in 1913 and were living at 18 Oliver Road in Erdington at that time. They may have moved after that but would have stayed in the Erdington / Aston area.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Steve
