Derek,

Regarding the Hall's not much information, my mum's sister Kathleen Marsh married a Frank Hall born in 1919 in Worksop. Frank and Kathleen moved to Austrialia in the 1960s. They had 3 children James, Christine and Shirley.

It is Christine with whom I in contact with regarding the Hall's. She advised me her grandfather was called ewart or william ewart hall. I found a Ewart Hall living in Worksop in the 1901 census born in 1897 son of William Hall born 1864 being a housbuilder from Whitwell.

I spoke to Christine on the phone today and the above information prompted to recall that her aunt Edith, still alive in austrialia had told her that her grandfather been a housebuilder.

but that is all I know at the moment, but I think does confirm the right person

Cheers
Mark

Hi Jon.........This was the only ARMER family in Cromford

William Armer (originally from Harlow in Essex) and his wife Mary had the following children:-

Sarah 28.12.1850
Elizabeth 19.01.1851
William 03.07.1852
John 19.06.1853 I suspect he died young see below)
Keziah 19.08.1855
Mary 20.09.1857
Martha 04.09.1859
Clara 21.12.11861
Thomas Josiah 28.12.1864
John William 30.12.1866 (replacement for the earlier John?)
Frank 19.0-7.1868

These are Baptisms not Births..I suspect that Clara also died young because she didn't make it to the 1861 Census. But i have no Burials for Cromford.

Can tell you that:

MARTHA married Robert Bearder 24.08.1882

KEZIAH married Benjamin William Cooke 26.02.1881

SARAH married James Stuart 28.12.1886

Willam and Mary were not married in Cromford and neither were any of the other children

I'll look further for you

Derek

Derek,

Any photos or information the Hall's or photos would be wonderful.

From Census records i have picked up 9 of the 12 sibling and their estimated year of birth - Jane, Adela, Alice, john, Agnes, Sidney, William, Lucy and Mark.

So if you could tell the remaining 3 and any more accurate birth dates i would be grateful

Mark

Derek
Many thanks for the ARMER details, very interesting.
John 1853 did in fact die in 1857 his replacement, John William 1866 also died young in 1867, no more John's after that !!.
William & Mary may have married in Matlock but cannot be sure.

Derek Report 22 May 2010 21:43

Hello Sandra..i don't have the Duffield records but I do have other irons in the fire.

How sure are you of Richard's Birth date??? because i have him dying in 1785 aged 56

The only Richard born 1734 camr from Ordsall in Notts (North Nottd near Retford) rather a long way away from Duffield

I have found your family including George 1765-1846.who married Betty Sims 07.03.1785.the other children of Richard (spelt Keeton) and Elizabeth Briggs (married 05.05.1754 ST Alkmund Derby) are:

MARTHA 1758
RICHARD 1761
SAMUEL 1767

This all comes from a Richard Keeton born 1729 Duffield..whose parents were Richard Keeton and Elizabeth (nee Atkin)

I need to look at the Duffield Pasrish registers to be able to go any further..which I may get achance to do next week

All the best.

Derek.

Derek,

Hi I know you are helping me the Hall and the Marsh family connections in derbyshire. I think I have found a third major family connection. My great-grandfather Henry Marsh born around 1848 married a Grace Carson. I was trying to find som actual dates for birth and marriage and it appears that th Carson family also came from Whitwell!

This isn't prioriity for me at the moment, as I think you have enough queries on your plat from me -- I just thought it was interesting, as I aways thought my ancestors (on my mium's side) all hailed from Notts.

Mark,

Hi Derek.

Wondered if you can help me... I'm trying to get some more information on the PEACE family that lived in Derbyshire during the 1600s and 1700s. They lived in STAPENHILL , details I have are as follows :

Henry Peace b. c. 1659
wife Elizabeth Peace b. c.1663
Children : Francis b. 1695
Ann 1685
Margaret 1686
Sarah 1696
Elizabeth 1698

Francis had children Francis Henry and Joseph.

Would be grateful if you could throw up any leads that II can follow up.

Youre doing a sterling job.

Regards
Paul

Derek Report 23 May 2010 14:29

Hello Paul..I have the Stapenhill Parish records 1679-1910....and there are 234 PEACE baptisms!!!

This means that they don't record either the Birth of the Marriage of either Henry or Elizabeth Peace..the parents of your brood. henry was boen c.1659 and Elizabeth 1663. I believe they wer both from Stapenhill and Elizabeth died there as a widow 25.12.1738.

They were singularly unfortunate in their breeding!! losing four of their children in infancy.:_

ANN bapt.08.08.1685 buried 20.05.1686
ELIZABETH bapt. 30.11.1698 buried 25.12.1698
FRANCIS bapt. 13.05.1694 buried 19.09.1694
FRANCIS (MK2) bapt.12.10.1695..see below
HENRY bapt.08.10.1687
MARGARET bapt. 30.05.1686 buried 28.06.1686
SARAH bapt. 06.02.1696..married Francis Mason 21.02.1717

These are all original sources from Stapenhill..and the Burials clearly state child of Henry and Elizabeth.

One of these silly Ancestry so called Family trees has Margaret marrying aWilliam Johnson in Clowne 11.04.1704..clealry nonsense.

I haven't yet checked for any children of Sarah and Francis Mason

FRANCIS married Margaret..unknown at this point because I don't have their marriage..their children were.

Francis 03.01.1734
Henry 17.01.1724
Joseph 31.07.1727

all at Stapenhill..

Frances 1734 allegedly went on to marry an Elizabeth from Alrewas and had TEN children at Burton on trent..I say allegedly because they are not my records.

If any of this rings a bell and can be followed up further..let me know.

Derek

Hi Derek

Hope you are well. I wonder if I could ask if you have the details of the following four marriages, all at Glossop between 1901 and 1911.

Clara Ann Hawley married either Booth or Leach in the Mar Q 1902.

Frances Ellen Hawley married either Fletcher or Garside in the Dec Q 1902.

Lucy Hawley married either Hibbert or Vernon in the Sept Q 1903.

Elizabeth Hawley married William Frederick Williams in the June Q 1908.

I understand if these dates are too recent and/or you dont hold the records for Glossop.

Kind Regards
Claire

Wow ! This must be the one !! But time shows as 23:16:29 must differ down here in NZ.
Right now to my original query & your initial answer.
Have you any further information on Thomas Collis's parents John & Elizabethnee Bentley & his grandparents Philip & Mary nee Bunting ?
I would be much obliged to receive as much as possible so as I can differentiate between the many Collis families from Derby.
Thank-you v m for your patience

Sorry deleting my query. The Cardiff area is the place I need. I know that is in Wales so the question is pointless.

Derek Report 27 May 2010 09:20

Hi Sharon....I can certainly confirm the marriage..but their are many many Parishes in Chesterfield..and need to hunt around a bit to find a date.

The name is CAVENEY..not Kaveney......JAMES CAVENEY married ELLEN CASSIDY in Oct/Nov/Dec 1873 soemwhere in Chesterfield.

If you have the faclilty to purchase Certificates.the reference number is Volume 7b Page 1307.

Ellen Cassidy was born Chesterfield 1855..I suspect that James came from ireland.....
