Hello Sandra.this is not easy!!!..don't suppose you have his Marriage certificate?????? would tell us where he married Elsie and his father's name..........was he born in Derbyshire or Notts????

Have found your Wyld family..from Clay Cross..but moved to Arnold Nottingham..........the earlier children being born in Clay Cross..the later in Nottingham.

There are a number of George Farnsworth's..........one of whom was born in Clay Cross!!..but why would he move to Nottingham???

Possible clue is that both he and Elsie's father were Coal Miners.....and movement across the Notts and derbys Coalfields was very common.......but to tie him down would need some link between them........because my George Farnsworth is still in Clay Cross in 1901.

There is,at the moment absolutley nothing to place the right George in the right place........and I don't have records after 1911........

but I'll keep looking

Derek.

DOROTHY GOULD 08.04.1810 died 25.02.1874 married Thomas Hall 08.05.1834

DANIEL GOULD 1815-1871 married BETTY LEE 13.02.1837 and had the following children:

Sandra.........we might just have cracked this!!!...But there is no Chapel Yard existing in Nottingham.I live there........and about ten minutes away from Chapel Lane in Arnold..........between Furlong Street and High Street..but there was a Chapel yard in 1891 and 1901...........

I do have the 1911 Census details.and IF your George Farnsworth is in fact George F Farnsworht we might just be in business..and its all down to Occupation!

Here's how it goes.....1911

16 kimberley street Sneinton Nottingham:

George Farnsworth b 1849 Derbyshire..widower aged 62.

Has four sons...

GEORGE F FARNSWORTH 1882 Nottingham PACKING CASE MAKER Single
Arthur 28 Gas Stoker
Herbert 22 Factory Porter
John 18 Box Cutter Cardboard......they are all single..

So I looked on earlier Census Records for a match..Bingo

In both 1881 and 1891 we have a george and Sarah Farnsworth living in Chapel yard Nottingham........

In 1891 they have a son

George F Farnsworth who in 1901 is a PACKING CASE MAKER.............!!!!..born 1881/1882

George senior is born somercoates derbyshire 1849.......I think these are the people you're looking for..
Let me know what you think.

Derek,

When you next get around to looking at the Marsh family for me I wondered wether there any any records for illegitmate children because I have come across somwthing that looks odd.

Samuel Marsh born 1805 at Scarcliff married Sarah Wood and they had a number of children including two sons both named William both surviving into adulthood. One was born in 1835 but it the second born Langwith in 1863 I am curious about.

In the 1871 it states that this William is the son of Samuel and Sarah who would be 58 and 54 when he was born! I believe I have this William in 1891 census living in Brentwood Middlesex born in Langwith. In 1891 he has his mother Jane Marsh a widow aged 48 living with him from Scarcliff. If she was 48 in 1891 that would put her birth date at 1843. Samuel and Sarah had a daugther Jane born 18463.

I am right do you think that Jane was a unmarried mother and they tried to pass William off anonther son rather than as a grandchild?

Regards
Mark

PS Whenever you get round to Pool family from Whitwell, I think there is a similar scandal

Hello Mark.....but if Jane Marsh born 1843 was a widow.her maiden name would not have been Marsh..................

Mark

Mark Report 5 Jun 2010 00:20

Derek,

I think Jane Marsh would hide being an unmarried mother, by calling herself a widow.. it saves a lot of explainations especially when she and her son William had moved to Middlesex where no-one would know her history

Hello Mark..I think you're right..I have the full record.......and Jane and Willioam are living together in Acton/Ealing in 1891........I'll get back to you with the line of Marshes from Samuel........haven't yet got to see the Langwith or Whitwell records yet....but the Marhs family were active from Langwith to Scarsdale to Whitwell and through to Worksop.......I'm enjoying ot all coming together.....

hi Derek
its Rose here i can see your very busy, but was wondering if you have had any luck sorting our confused MORTON family out? Thank You

Thanks Derek for the prompt reply regarding John William and Hannah Walker. That's amazing! I have been struggling with that for a year! The fact that John's siblings emigrated to Australia maybe why his son Charles emigrated here. I would be interested to know if John and Hannah's firstborn who died in infancy was named Fred/Wilfred. Each of Charles four children had a son named Fred or Wilfred - obviously a family name. Now that I know Hannah was married as Hannah Sidebottom I can order the marriage certificate to find out their families. It's a mystery why Charles family thought Hannah's maiden name was Hibbert.
Hope this is the right way to contact you - haven't done it before and couldn't work out what to do.
Thank you so much!

Derek,

I did google "william marsh" and Langwith this morning which flagged someone's website list Derbyshire Settlement Orders and Bastardy Order.
The former for Scarcliffe has
19 Mathew Marsh and family, Nether Langwith 1740
SC1 William Marsh and family, Nether Langwith 1741
The Bastardy Oders for Scarcliff have
B23 Elizabeth Hardwick 15. Oct Female, William Marsh 1826

I don't whether this is of any use to you

Cheers
Mark

Hi Jennifer..I do have the Tideswell Parish records. Litton is a small village a couple of miles away........William Carnell was not baptised at Tideswell.........but he may have been baptised at Taddington in 1737..but the only information on that is that his father was called William.......I'll keep looking...

However..I do have good information on the family of MARGARET BINGHAM..like parents and grandparents.and siblings..all at Tideswell..(people from Litton were baptised married and buried at Tideswell)

I have the children of William and Margaret..Ellen 1768..Emma 01.10.1769..Thomas 1780........and GEORGE 22.06.1777..the only one to be baptised at Tideswell......he married Ellen Hall 09.04.1798 and had NINE children.details available if you want them.....Geroge died at bakewell september 1863

Will keep looking...

Derek.

Hi Derek,

I have george's Children (thats my decendant line) didn't have his death record so thats great.

I have Margaret's Binghams birth but not death. I have her parents & 4 siblings as well as her Grandfather Hecules wife Elizabeth Low and 4 of Margaret's siblings. If you can find anything further on them that would be wonderful.

Think that William Carnell had an earlier marriage to Ann in 1757 they had 3 children but I don't have the Marriage or her surname.

Thank you for taking the time to help

much appreciated

Jenny

A question about the dreaded Measham family ?Do you know if the school registers for Repton School are kept at Matlock please ? I have found 6 of the folk on another related site but don't want to have to pay out £30 to view them. Many thanks.
