Have a stinking cold shared with me by the 2 youngest Grandaughters. Generous little ladies LOL. I am also wondering if Repton Primary school records are anywhere to be found. Will have to check back tomorrow as I need to get some sleep. Nite

Hi Derek
if possible and when you have time could you please start at the beginning for us as i think mine is a bit confused. i am looking for my grandads ancestors, he is called Isaac Morton b. 1889 in Hayfield, New mills Derbyshire. me and my granddaughter have gone back to 1803 although i think it may be wrong.
Thank You
Rose

Derek

Derek Report 6 Jun 2010 10:37

Hello Rose.this is difficult..Isaac Morton does not appear on 1891 1901 or evevn 1911 Census at Hayfield....There is one mention of his marrying somebody called Carty in last quarter 1922.

There appear to be a number of variations of Morton...........Only one Morton family in Hayfield 1891 and 1901...John H and his wife Olive..and in 1901 they have five children.nothing remotely like Isaac....

I have the New Mills Register....no Isaac.

You may not know that the top bit of erbyshire can be confusing to some people......Hayfield can mean New Mills can meean Glossop..Chinley etc etc.......

Perhaps you should tell me what you have for 1803..and i'll work on that.

Derek.

Hi Gooner......hope you're feeling better..there is a purchasable disc of Repton School Records ..cost 14.50.............but I also belive they are at Matlock...........will probably not get to Matlock now before 21st June..cos of work.....but I'll phone them tomorrow and see what they've got.....I think the Primary School is modern..............Repton School goes back to 1571.and was (and is) for posh gits.......lol

Rose Report 6 Jun 2010 15:57

Hi
I think i got that wrong. We found Issac in the deaths register, he died 1969 and his birth was sept 1899. we couldn't find him in the births but we found an Isaiah Morton age 1 in the 1901 census in New Mills which could be him. isaac did marry Elizabeth Carty in 1922 as they are my fathers parents.

Isaiah's parents are listed as Elizabeth and Charles Morton and we also found a marriage for Charles in Hayfield, Derbyshire in 1897 which fits as Isaac was born 1899.

1881 census - Charles is listed as an 8 year old living with his parents Edward and Ann Morton at Berry Buildings, Thornsett.
Siblings included were Jas. which we think is James?? aged 6
Isaac age 12
1891 census is the same minus Isaac, we found his death - 1889 aged 20 on the register. we think this was why my grandad was named Isaac??

in 1871 we found Edward and Ann again in Beard with a baby George......we found his death on the records for 1871.......cot death???

We have Edward's birth as 1844 in Belper, derbyshire which leads us back to 1803 and Edensor

1861 census shows Edward living with parents and siblings
Elias aged 58
Fanny 45
Edward 16
Eliza .A 14
Mary E 12
Richard 10
Fanny 7
Henry 4
Hannah S 6 months

We found Elias b. 1803 all of this may be wrong but we know that my father lived on Francis Farm in New Mills

Thanks Rose

HI Derek

Re:The Watsons (last mention page 29)

As I said I found a marriage of sorts between a Watson/Deakin in 1908, but only recently discovered that there is a Basford(registration district) in Derbyshire. Also Horace (their first born) might have been born after the census was taken in 1911 (i appreciate you have nothing after 1911 so the other children's names aren't much use to you). I have heard from an elderly relative that Tom Watson was always described as a "gamekeeper" when in Derbyshire.
Thanks for all your help so far, keep up the good work. PS what do you think of GR charging an extra fee to access the newly added 1911 census - if you don't mind my asking.
Would appreciate anything you might find on the Watsons?

LOL Derek very posh gits. There were a class of them out in the village when we were visiting. Rude little beggars too. They obviously don't do lessons in good manners LOL. I wonder which school the commoners would have used then? Was not sure if there was an older now non existant Primary. Why is it everything I would like to learn about the family is such bloomin hard work LOL

Good morninh Eric..sorry.I really thought I'd answered you.......I have ALFRED ROBINSON 09.07.1878.to 06.11.1965 married Sarah Anne Howarth 1876-1964

I have the first of their children MABEL ALICE 23.05.1905 to 03.05.1905 born in the States and died New Zealand?????

who married your REGINALD COLLIS of whom we have already spoken

A Collis Family tree on Ancestry has Alfred parents as Richard 1845.died 11.02.1912 Derby..and an unnamed Sarah who died in Derby 26.02.1913

There are a number of Derbyshire Alfred on the census for 1881..and 1891..but none of them have parents Richard and Sarah......I don't have much time to play with becasue if Mabel Alice was born 1905..then they are probably not on the 1901 or 1911 Census..so i only have 1881 and 1891 to suss out who the real parents of Alfred are.......any thoughts??

Hello Derek,
I have a query relating to John William Walker born Disley around 1935 married 1859 to Hannah Sidebottom born Stalybridge around 1935. Children unknown (dec), Albert, Charles William, Emily and John. Lived most of their married life in New Mills.
You told me a few days ago that you believed John William's siblings came to Australia. Are you able to give any more info' as I don't know who his family are. My Dad has no knowledge of any relatives here who are not direct descendants of John's son Charles William and his wife Elizabeth Alice Birtwistle who came with their family in 1912/1914. Thanks, Peta.

Hi Derek ,
Many thanks for Robinson info.
I see Meercat found an Alfred Robinson on 1881 census whose parents Richard & Sarah were born in Hull. I replied top Meercat saying I remember we had relations in Hull & Cleethorpes.
The only other information I have that might help isthat the Robinson grave in the Nottingham Rd Cemetery in Derby has my great grandparents Richard d.1913 (67)& Sarah d.1913(72), a John Robinson d.12/08/1913(4) & a Sydney Raynor d.20/11/1914(17 days), the latter being the son of Alfred Robinson's sister Pat who married a Jack Raynor. Hope this helps somewhat.
Cheers Eric

Hi Derek.
Hope you can help with this one.
Henry Frost married Rebecca Ann (surname not known) about 1875-80.
They both came from Youlgrave both born abt 1858. Ist child born 1881.
Know they moved to Sheffield at some point, then Skipton & finally Bradford. I think he worked on the railway.
His parents were Matthew Frost & Jane Rowland of Youlgrave.
CanĀ“t find out anything about Rebecca.

I will have to look up details of my Derbyshire Woodhouse family, just to check if there are still some some rellies avoiding detection!

Thanks for all the hard work you do,
