Hi Cherilyn,
It's me still on the hunt for LEE's.
Having got my Great Grandfathers marriage certificate I am looking to go further back??
GGrandfather was Henry Arthur Lee who married Annie Bohee on 1st June 1882. It shows him as being born in Newcastle NSW. He obviously came to NZ and lived in Masterton where he got married. I am looking for his father who was also called Henry Arthur LEE and his wife Elizabeth nee ROSE. I think that is the right name from the cert. I am wondering if they came from the UK to Australia and then maybe to NZ or if just my GGrandfather came to NZ.
Just wondering if you can shed any light on this or tell me where to look.
Many thanks
Jenny :-)

Hi Jenny

I'm afraid there is no sign of Henry's birth in NSW c1855.
The omly Henry A LEE born in that period was to Wm & Sarah in 1854.
And no trace of a Hy & Elizabeth LEE nee ROSE either.
Is it definitely Newcastle, NSW???

Sorry :-(

Hi Ann

Sorry I don't have access to the electoral rolls. You could try the Ask a Librarian service at the WA State Library?

Good luck! :-)

Cherilyn, It looks like that on the marriage certificate but I wonder!!!! Maybe it is the UK. Maybe the person who wrote it thought it was Australia !!!

Thanks for looking. :-)

Hi Cherilyn, I am a new comer to your search, but I am also searching for any records on William McGuinness d 1831 Marries Mary Hancock 1870 at Victoria creek & dies in Canbelego 1906 I have his Marriage certificate & death certificate which states his father was listed as "McGuinness"& his mother was"not known". He had 10 living children & 1 deceased child. I can only presume he was left an orphan, unless someone can come up with any information. I would appreciate anything.
Thanks
Beryl

Hi Beryl, thanks for your message. This is a tricky one, if his marriage and death certs don't have any info then it doesn't give you much hope.

Does his marriage or death give a birthplace?

Also given his age when he married Mary (assuming you mean born 1831) is there any indication on the marriage cert that it was his 2nd marriage? ie widower.

Guessing you have all his children's details.

I have a Herbert William Salmon born 1869 London England. He married Harrietta Dodson in 1892 NSW. I have been led to believe that after the great war, Herbert met another woman in England while serving and returned to Oz where he married her after seperating from Harriet. Herbert died 1944 in England. I am trying to find out if this second marriage is true. I would like details on marriage if possible and any children from it. Herbert Williams parents were George and Charlotte Salmon.

hope someone can help

Good Morning Cherilyn,
Thanks for the reply, Yes I was afraid you would come up with that answer No, the death certificate only states that he was born in Victoria. & there was no mention of a second marriage I don't have any more details on his Birth, just that he died in 1906 aged 75. I have the names & ages of his 10 children of William & Mary McGuinness & a few details.of his children, If there is no mention of birth details on his Marriage or death certificate I doubt that I can get any further.
Thanks for your help

Hi GIna

The only marriage in NSW I can see is in 1916 but that is a Herbert Harold SALMON, in Murwillumbah.

There was also a Wm Herbert SALMON in NSW around this time but he had different parents, so not a match.

It seems more likely his 2nd marriage would have been in England, where they met and where he died. HIs divorce does not appear in newspapers (NLA Trove). Harrietta May certainly didn't remarry; se died as SALMON in NSW in 1966.

It is possible he left his wife and returned to the UK and did not legally marry the 2nd woman, but lived as man and wife. Do you know where he is buried/memorialised?

I note from this service record that he was almost 43 when he enlisted and had 2 children under 16; they were living in Qld at the time.

He was discharged due to 'premature senility' in 1918. See http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx

PS His son Harold George b. 1893 NSW married Dora ELLEVSEN in Qld; sadly he was KIA in Belgium in WWI. They had a son named Harold Ellevsen who died in 1985 in Qld.

Hi Cherilyn

Many thanks for having a look for me. Herbert Williams death is registered Staines, Middlesex. There is always the chance that there was no second marriage but will have a look over here to see what i can find xx

Hi Cherilyn

Me again. I have Victor Arthur Salmon born 1927 in London England travelling to Sydney on the Orford in 1937. There is a Victor Arthur Salmon on the 1954 electoral roll for Kedron, Queensland and 1980 for Surfers Paradise, Queensland with Edth Fay Salmon down on both. Could you please see if you can find a marriage and any children. I am not sure if they would have married in Queensland. I have tried looking but keep going in circles.
