If the Alexander that ArgyllGran found is the right one ( :-) ), then Samuel & Ann GILL had another son George G in 1886 in Central Cumberland district of NSW soon after arriving (reg 18489).

Sadly he died in Parramatta in 1887 (reg 7359).

Interestingly there is a death of a Samuel GILL that same year, also in Parramatta - and his parents are given as Samuel and ELSPETH (reg 8773).

This from the Cumberland Mercury, 24 Nov 1886:
A MAN named Samuel Gill, aged 37 years, died in the Hospital yesterday morning of stonemason's phthisis.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/248797810

This fits the timeline perfectly...

An Annie Gill is listed as living in Francis Street, Rookwood in 1890.

Do you have Alexander's marriage certificate? I'd suggest you start there. If the parents names are correct then I'd be inclined take a punt and order Samuel's death certificate. It should list wife, children and time in the colony.

FYI children of Alexander Robertson GILL & Elizabeth eldest 5 born in Ballina district and youngest in Casino district.

Annie Elizabeth b. 1902, d. 1977
Minnie C b. 1903, d. ?
Leslie A. b. 1907
Gladys Elspeth b. 1910
Alexander R. b. 1913, d. 1913
Evelyn b. 1916, d. 1960

Elizabeth died in January 1916 in Casino district, so seems likely she died in childbirth with Evelyn.

Evelyn GILL married Frank WOODHOUSE in 1936 (reg 14530) and died in 1960 (reg 7782), shown as daughter of Alexander Reberson and Elizabeth. It's possible she was fostered out as a baby given the situation.

Annie married Michael Wm GUTHRIE in 1923 (reg 7666). She died in 1977 (reg 106665).

Minnie married Matthew EWING in 1925 (reg 1566). History repeated when she also lost her husband at age 38... https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16906506

Gladys married Robert George CRAM in 1928. Sadly he also died relatively young,
in 1949:

I think Ann Gordon was Samuel's second wife - marriage after births of Alexander and Elsie..

This is his first marriage - Elspeth as you mentioned above:

GILL
SAMUEL
BISSET
ELSPET
1872
235/ 5
Rathen

Children of Samuel and Elspet(h) were :

Catherine Scott Gill 25/09/1872,
Elsie 21/09/1874
and Alexander as already posted.

I don't see young Ann's birth with any certainty - there are a few possibilities.
She would have been second wife Ann's child.

Elspet's death:

BISSET (also listed as Gill)
ELSPET
27
1880
168/1 1036
St Nicholas

So Samuel's wives were Elspet Bissett and Ann Gordon.
His parents were Samuel Gill and Elizabeth Ogston.

Nice work! :-)

That also explains why Elsie's death reg in 1892 aged 18 shows her parents as Samuel & Elspet (reg 5915).

Now we just have to hope Cindy comes back :-D

Also ruled out the ones who died in 1922 (born in NSW) and the one who died in 1937 (born in the 1850s)- https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/214838278

The one who died in 1934 was born c1881 and appears to be the son of the Thos who died in 1937 - he had brothers Andrew & Herbert, several sisters and mother was Mary- Forbes district (reg 23475)

The trees all say he died in Sydney, but don't provide proof, or a date.

Nor do they give a date for his arrival in Australia, nor any information whatsoever about Emily - just her first name.

Do you know he definitely did go to Australia?
