Robert McLeod, Sailmaker. 2nd Son of Late Aulay McLeod died at sea on 1st April 1880.

Hi

Just came across this thread....it was the Greenock that caught my eye.

My mum and her ancestors are from Greenock and Port Glasgow.....my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins still live there.

Not sure if you have came across this site....it has a lot of BMD's from those area's and has helped me.

Sandra...Have not been long in from work so am going to soak my feet before I get caught up with Aulay again....
Found some fascinating history re the name....Aulay (McCaulay)...there are two distinctive "Clans" one from Lewis the other Dumbartonshire....and it all depends on what Christian names follow through in how to determine which one "you " would come from...Thats for another day...
Did you find out where Ann was on the 1891 Census...shes got to be somewhere...
Oh and John (who died at Newport was also John "Gillespie" McLeod...) another name to add to the collection...Dont even ask where Gillespie comes into it...I have looked...promise....

Sandra...Have pulled all the bits together relating to Aulay McLeod (1855) son of Ann Johnson Sheddan and Auley McLeod...it takes some ploughing through after 103 replies...!!!!

All Registered Greenock

1. John McLeod married Susann MaCaulay. Nov. 1744
2. One of their children was named Aulay McLeod b. 1773
3 Aulay McLeod (1773) married Elizabeth Thompson 1794
4 They had 2 boys named Aulay one born 1801 and the one born 1813...
5.Aulay McLeod.(1813) married Anne Johnston Sheddan 27 Feb. 1848
6.Aulay and Ann were living according to the 1851 Census at Market St.
with children Colin 2 years. and Robert 1 year...
Aulay was an Accountant.

I asked SJR for 1891 and 1901 Census lookup for Ann McLeod and she came up trumps with 1901 but no luck in 1891. -

This is the only entry for a Ann & John Bremner in Glasgow.
